It has shown up on the CAAzone and RamNation on many instances, and made its first appearance in late March of this year (hmmmmm, what could have happened around then?).03-nutkick

I blame Pavarotti

You mean fattarotti. He is VCU in a nutshell. He did an interview for the some paper where he was talking about how he got a free trip to the Final 4 because of what a "super fan" he is.

Then he actually had the stones to say he doesn't do it for the attention, he just likes to support his team.

Ummmm, a 350 pound grown 30+ year old who wears Ram horns to every game, dresses like opposing teams coaches (and appallingly so that he is 30 years old and in far worse shape that Blaine Taylor), carries around a white board and writes messages on it during the games, generally acts like a Diva and sits in the student section because he can't afford season tickets.

But yeah, he doesn't do it for the attention. 03-phew03-nutkick

ODU get's good sports coverage if you ask me, at least in the local media. The Virginia Pilot has an online section dedicated to ODU football (ODUBlitz.com), with our new beat writer Harry Minium. Rich Radford was our old football beat writer.

I know the tv station W-AVY (website) is usually on top of ODU sports news and I think they do a weekly "ODU Football Show with Bobby Wilder" or something.

BT, You and I have both forgotten Fat Tony! Easy to forget, but he was as he said 112 time Broadcaster of the year! Matrix, this Fat guy from local radio was rude to callers on the air, was a St. Louis Homer, belched into the mike, was a shill for countless local business, was against ODU's move to CUSA, and talked JMU sports up way more than ODU. There, I just summed up well over 30 years of so-called work of a so-called broadcast sportsguy who was just let go, finally and just recently! I was thankful that for the past 6 years I've been in N.E. N.C, I have not had to listen.

BT, is that for B. Taylor?

03-lmfao Oh, my goodness! Just goes to show, all these obnoxious Howard Stern and Morton (?) Downey Jr wannabes have polluted the airwaves. Closest thing we have sportswise in that regard is Paul Finebaum, but, he's a scrawny little something, looks like he's not eaten in months. Fat and overbearing blowhard? We have a guy named Matt Murphy, he doesn't do sports, but he and "Fat Tony" could perhaps pass as relatives. I'd sure like to hear a clip of this "Fat Tony" y'all mentioned and get a feel for just how much of a windbag he is, but I'll take your word for it! 03-lmfao

Blowhard is putting it nicely. Here's a video that shows how ridiculous this guy truly was. In it he hits on the interviewer, denigrates the great Muhammad Ali and claims that he's smarter than anyone he interviews. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HOQzTkM8_q0

RE: Sports Media Vibe For Old Dominion...
@ODUDrunkard13: Thank you, I shall definitely take a look at this video sometime today. Please try this one on for size, I was just made aware of this a few minutes ago. Apparently, someone at one of our sports radio stations has taken exception to the amount and some of the brevity of feedback from UAB and Conference USA fans on their Facebook wall, some of us alledged it to be spearheaded by Scott Griffin, co-host of the morning show, "Smashmouth Radio Network" on 97.3 FM (The Zone), a diehard SEC/alabama crimson tide luggage toter, and has had every and all UAB fan offerings deleted/removed. Some of us, of course, are attempting to find out why this is the case, because Griffin has possibly taken & made this whole thing personal, and has gone on the attack against Conference USA and UAB in particular.

Stay tuned for further developments on this as they come, it's a hot mess. I told y'all, it's not easy being green around here.

RE: Sports Media Vibe For Old Dominion...
BOLO: Coming to the Conference USA Football sidelines this season, from that radio station here in Birmingham that I told y'all about (97.3 The Zone), host Rachel Baribeau will be a sideline reporter for a select number of Conference USA games. Man, I wish you guys were starting up with us this year, you will absolutely love this lady! She's one of the most open-minded & delightful sports personalities in this state, and welcomes Conference USA conversation with open arms every time.

She has a Twitter account (@RachelBaribeau) and has at times, fielded questions for her show on the air via this option. She is going a huge plus for the Conference and its' fans, and I encourage any and all of you to reach out to her via Twitter or call the station toll free, 1-855-230-9663(ZONE) between the hours of 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. eastern standard time, Monday thru Friday. Please reach out and let her know how excited you all are about becoming a part of the Conference USA family. Perhaps you'll get to see for yourself during any televised C-USA games broadcast in your given areas. I'm confident that she will return the love she gets from Monarch Nation with interest.

@ODUDrunkard13: Just finished watching the video...LMAO! What a sanctimonious, self-aggrandizing, arrogrant, flippant, condescending tub of lard! Reminds of someone I used to work with not at all long ago! Good grief, I can't imagine having to share a radio station booth with this guy, I'd rather eat a broken glass sandwich.

I'll see if I can find some of our sports talk radio irritants on YouTube and post them over here so you can see some of what we have to contend with here in Birmingham. My goodness! How did y'all stand him???!!!

What a great description of Fat Tony. Now, I don't know about everyone else but I couldn't last through his show for more than a couple minutes. The only times I could manage longer is when he had an ODU guest on for an interview. As for Paul Finebaum, he's a grade A gas bag, but I'm sure his worst five-minutes of airtime are a million times better than Fat Tony's best.

Matrix, you asked for other teams nicknames, W&M, is referred to as Waste Management. Same colors and everything! Unfortunately, W&M never is/was much or may never be much on court, but had a couple of good FB squads.

I believe you. We have/had them here in Alabama, too. They were a sponsor for the pro hockey team we used to have (before they moved on us again), their sign used to be posted right over the visiting team's penalty box, along with the slogan, "Taking Out The Trash."

RE: Sports Media Vibe For Old Dominion...
After seeing that video clip of "Fat Tony", I can't imagine anyone less popular among ODU sports fans than he is in terms of sports coverage representation. Or am I mistaken? If I had to take a poll in this city as to who the least popular sports talk personality is, I think that it'd be a tightly contested race between Paul Finebaum, Scott Griffin, & Matt Coulter. "Most Popular?"...Rachel Baribeau , I think, would win in a landslide!!! Who are, in your opinion, the most and least popular local sports talk people in your coverage area, & what is it about them that would make you vote the way you would?
