ASU may be getting another new player for 2012
Some of our players are tweeting that OL Will Latu, who chose Oklahoma over ASU during recruiting this past year, was denied admission at OU and will attend ASU instead

He was rated the top JUCO OL in the country by several services this year.

Nothing confirmed at this point.

If it does happen, the stars have absolutely aligned for us in these past couple of years. I'm overwhelmed.

So what's the story on his "un-admission" to OU and why would ASU take him under those circumstances? Grades? Character? Why would OU not want him now?

Don't know the specifics but it appears to be academic, and different schools have different requirements, even in the same conference.

Know a couple of weeks ago Florida denied admission to a 4-start DL that may still be able to play at other SEC schools. Don't know what happened to him just know other schools were looking at him.

Remember a few years ago ASU got a player that was headed to Arkansas because he had a 'D' in a course that the UofA would not accept, even though the player was eligible under NCAA rules. ASU did take him and the UofA later changed its policy, of not taking a player with a ā€˜Dā€™.

Apparently he didnt graduate from JUCO. Was told there is little chance of him playing this year, and there is still a chance he may not get admitted to ASU either...but we're trying.

If he did not graduate he almost certainly sits a year.

Unless things have changed, since I last paid close attention to the player eligibility stuff, you have to meet both the NCAA degree progress and school standards for transfers. Unlike freshmen, no special admissions for transfers.

It can also be a problem if a school won't accept a class from the other school. Discard a class or two and suddenly you no longer fit. Until recently here in Arkansas the school in Fayetteville wouldn't accept some classes from UALR, UAM, UAPB, or the UA Community Colleges despite being under the same board of trustees and president.

You are exactly right, he can enroll but will not be eligible to play until he meets the requirements in credits. So he can not work out with the team in any group sessions, nor can he practice with the team. He must complete the requirements and then sign with the 2013 Class if he is going to be on scholarship.

This is great news that ASU, Troy, UL, and others are attracting quality players. Even we (USA) are racking up on the talent we expected when we jumped into this thing. Patience is paying off as the league is stocking up for the future. Speaking of the future, it keeps looking brighter and brighter for the SBC.

Yep, the league as a whole is grabbing some top notch talent. Browsing through my Phil Steele, Louisiana three or four Top 15 players (at their respective positions) just on defense, many of whom came from SEC schools.
