Been tough to keep this one a secret but I know many of you have been looking to an announcement like this. To add on to what Mr. Nielsen said in the release below, I am thrilled for all of the Flashes fans across the country to have unprecedented access to ALL of the university teams through not only WHLO but iHeartradio and our new KSU channel. Stay tuned!

I sure hope that 640 is loud and clear in the Cleveland area.

Now we don't have to follow that stupid "The Talk of Akron" jingle.

Sorry to hear about the change. 640 gives terrible reception in the Kent/Stow area. You may not have liked the ads but at least the reception was loud and clear for a good distance on WNIR.

Same for me, WNIR is the most popular station in the Akron area and they now have streaming This is a step backward. Would not be surprised to see the zits on our old station which is housed in Portage County. That would be hard to take.

Yeah 640 isn't an upgrade. The fact it is an iheart station will help people out of the area but it's signal is not the best for locals.

What the hell is this, an Akron board? You people are as fickle as they come.
All we read on here for the last two years is incessant whining and moaning about WNIR's elevator music and the dropped feeds and this and that. Now a change is made and you've done a 180.
It has absolutely nothing to do with money, I would be willing to bet the Clear Channel deal cost more than anything WNIR offered. Get real.

RE: New Radio Home
I cannot tell you the frustration of following KSU sports outside of the NE Ohio listening area. It’s pretty bad when ESPN Game Tracker is more up to date than the broadcast. ( This has nothing to do with Ty’s abilities....but listening to “We are all tied up at 68 with under two minutes to go” followed by MUSAC because the feed dropped.)
Thank you, JN, for listening to the complaints of KSU fans outside of NE Ohio, including the families and friends of many KSU athletes. There have been many complaints for many years. Good on you for listening.
If you live in NE Ohio, get to the game and you don’t have to worry about who carries it on the radio. When you can’t get to the game, listen on a clear, uninterrupted feed with the rest of us. And, let the Zips AD get the complaint calls about the old station.
The most important thing..do we keep Ty? He is the BEST.

Yes FICKLE fallsdog! Like a broad. It's why I'm not married anymore, can't deal it!
You are one of the most intelligent people on this or any board. Do you honestly think guys like Nielsen and Kleinlein would enter into a six-figure deal without doing extensive background and making sure your and FlashFan's concerns never happen again?
Bottom line is, the Kent State IMG sports network has a bigger outreach today than it had a month ago, and it isn't even CLOSE.

I just made it to the board for the first time in a few days and saw this. IMO this is GREAT news. Granted, I am one of the people from out of the area that tries to listen on a regular basis and have had horrid experiences with WNIR. The good news is between this and the MAC website that live streamed a lot of games, people can literally listen to or watch almost every single game.

WNIR gave us a crappy product. Could we do better? Sure, with enough money. I would love to hear broadcasts on WMMS, but let's be realistic. Plus, if you are not like me, you have a smartphone. If you have a smartphone, you can listen to the stream. Hopefully uninterrupted.

I listen to WNIR regularly. I am happy with this change. Now I don't have to listen to Bob Earley and his gang complain that a game is on ran late or whatever.

I go to all the home games. The trips up to CMU/WMU/NIU in January are not very appealing though so I rely on radio. I'm not fickle just pointing out an AM 640 won't reach Cleveland very well after dark. I do know how to use an ipad however even at my advanced age. There obviously are 2 groups. Ones that had trouble with the WNIR internet feed and ones that had no problem listing live.

Thank you Burden. I too go to all the home games-have over the past 30 years- and I too am not fickle. I have gone to a few away games and have gone to the MAC tournament for the past 20 years. I believe I have supported the progam over the "lean" years too. I hope ypu are right about the "upgrade" in the program delivery. I just hope that the bottom line won't be like "donations to be able to buy season tickets" has become.

Unfortunately, in today's college basketball world, that is the norm. The top programs in the nation have been doing this for 20+ years and the reaction of their fan bases is/was the same as ours. Nobody likes it, but that is what college basketball has become and it's not going to change. If you want to be a player, you have to act like a player (simply meaning we have to have more money than we do now to do things like renovate offices, keep assistant coaches, etc. etc.) IMO, the most important thing is to get "down" with the idea, because every 3-5 years or so, the "donation" necessary to buy those season tickets is going to increase.
