Ohio BB picks up two quality D1 transfers
Quote:July 16, 2012
Athens, Ohio - Ohio Men's Basketball announced the addition of two new players today. 5-11 guard Javarez "Bean" Willis, a transfer from Texas Tech, and Treg Setty, a 6-9 forward who played last season at Southern Illinois have joined the Green & White.
Willis started 29 games as sophomore for Texas Tech, finishing second on the team in assists while also finishing fourth on the team in scoring at 8.1 ppg. He led the Red Raiders in scoring during contests against Wake Forest and Baylor, Oklahoma and Kansas. Willis scored a career-high 21 in a 65-47 win over the Sooners in Lubbock and led the team in assists seven times with a season-high five helpers against the Deamon Deacons. As a freshman, he played in 27 games scoring in double figures against Texas and Missouri.
Setty transferred to Ohio following one season at Southern Illinois. He played in all 31 games for the Salukis, including 10 starts. Setty had a career-high 20-point outing against Illinois State and made his first start against Chicago State with nine points and seven rebounds.

Both guys were starters at the D1 level out of quality conferences (B12, MVC) and should definitely be contributors for the Bobcats.

These transfers atleast allow Ohio to reload and not go into full rebuild after this season. Cooper, Baltic, Keely and Offutt are seniors and very solid players. Not easy to replace any of them. These transfers atleast helps Ohio perhaps have a smaller drop off. Kellogg, Smith, Johnson, Green and Hall are juniors. Groce was a great recruiter and it will take another tournament run for Christian to perhaps win over recruits the caliber that Groce was able to land. These are atleast band aids to buy Christian some time. Ohio lost a couple prize recruits when Groce left. These two additions take some of the sting out of those losses.
