New Transfer
Belmont has added a transfer from Samford 6'9" Drew Windler. Seems like a decent player although the article is unclear whether he is eligible this fall however it does mention he has already taken a red shirt so maybe they had a coaching change that allows him to transfer without sitting out? Looks like he may have two years left.

Samford did have a coaching change this summer. He looks like a good fit with his 3 point shooting.

Yeah, I forgot they gave Tillett the boot. This really filled a gaping hole as I'm not convinced Chad is ready to take over the starting 5 spot. I hope he's ready to contribute more this season but signing a big with experience that fits our system is, well.....big.

Are they holding off announcing whether he is playing this season because they are waiting for a ruling from the ncaa or is it automatic with a coaching change?

RE: New Transfer
NCAA says you can't transfer just because a coach leaves and play the next year. You'd still have to sit out. However, there are waivers that can be applied for, that would allow him to play without sitting out, mostly related to academics that are not offered by the original school.

There is also a one time waiver if the student athlete has graduated at his original school and would like to pursue a graduate degree at a new school, they may play without sitting out, as long as a number of other criteria are met. This seems a likely scenario, but all of this is pure speculation.

It seems unlikely Belmont would sign him unless he can play for two years immediately.

RE: New Transfer
This kid is evidently a player. All Southern Conference. There is a 10 page thread on him at Samford's board. They are really upset at losing him. The link below is to the last page of the thread.

http://www.samfordbulldogs.com/viewtopic...2&start=90

It is possible that he could graduate from Samford after his third year (he redshirted his first year and then played 2 years) and then enroll at Belmont without sitting out. This is due to what I read on this thread about Belmont offering a graduate degree that he wants that is not offered at Samford. That has happened all over the NCAA.

Very interesting. The kid sounds like a real player.

RE: New Transfer
I just want to say again how huge this could be for our season next year. This kid could be the missing piece to a tremendous squad! Crossing my fingers for his immediate eligibility. I have to believe that he wouldn't choose to waste a year of eligibility, and I have to believe that Belmont wouldn't go after him for a sole year of eligibility.

I read some of those pages. They are pretty upset about losing him. He does sound like a player that can help us in the one area where we would have been weak this year. I'm really glad to have him.

The person who does facebook for the team said on facebook that Windler is sitting out this year and won't play till 13-14. That is too bad for this year and a bit surprising to me.
