James Madison ? would be Cream of the Crop in the SBC ??
http://boards.caazone.com/showthread.php...-expansion

We would immediately be the cream of the crop in the sunbelt which would not be a bad thing. We are already a big fish in a small evaporating pond (CAA) so at this point we may as well move to another with an fbs label. At least there somebody some of the bigger fist may take us more seriously during future re-alignment.

Wow... That JMU fan is delusional. WKU was one of the better teams in FCS when they decided to bring football to the SBC, and they definitely weren't the cream of the crop their first years in the conference. JMU doesn't even have the talent level...

Nothing to see here, I guarantee you every FCS program in the country that has had a winning season in the past five years has at least one yahoo who thinks they would dominate the Sun Belt. I actually prefer this one:

We would murder & pillage the Sun Belt. Maybe Troy would survive?

James Madison is a strong FCS program and would probably fair as well as App State or Georgia Southern would, which is to say, they'd take their lumps out of the gate, but would get up to speed quicker than 98% of their FCS peers.

I had to read that twice and then check that I wasnt in Fringe Universe B. They won an FCS national title in 2004. But they have only won 4 conference titles in 40 years. The last three years they have been 6-5, 6-5 and 8-5. The heat is getting to people

RE: James Madison ? would be Cream of the Crop in the SBC ??
I think he is just delusional. Let him be. JMU isn't going to be in the Sun Belt anytime soon. He can dream of FBS success. I really don't care about what some crummy midrange FCS school stuck on a mountain in the middle of nowhere in a dying conference thinks.

But I did note the discussion of athletic budgets. I wish there was a list somewhere that looked at non-tuition, room and board atheltic budgets (which would be a better indication of what schools are actually spending on the athletic programs).

WKU won the FCS championship in 2002. They lost their first 10 games in Sun Belt play and 14 of their first 16.

JMU won the FCS title in 2004. Other than upsetting VPI in 2010 (and promptly going 4-5 the rest of the season) what makes JMU a dominator?

RE: James Madison ? would be Cream of the Crop in the SBC ??
Although I certainly disagree with the assessment that JMU would be the "cream of the crop" in the Sun Belt (as do some of his fellow CAA fans, based on the thread), I think they would be a good get for an FBS conference.

Strength in other sports along with small market location are concerns but from a football and institutional standpoint, they would offer a lot. Beautiful, newly renovated football stadium with plenty of room for more expansion, great fan support, $30M+ athletic budget and strong academics.

If/when Appalachian makes the move, I would love it if we shared a conference with James Madison. As for this guy posing on their board, every fan base has one.

c'mon mane. you know when i spell something it's with intent. usually for phonetic purposes. rairly was just a play on fair. and i'm never a grammar nazi. i get tickled by what some people think certain colloquialisms are. i don't correct but i chuckle.

I think JMU, after taking 1-11 type lumps practically every single FBS upgrade can expect to take, would be a decent add for us or the MAC. Our expansion has not gone geographically in JMU's direction so JMU likely wont get an invite from us. One from CUSA is unlikely because of their market size.

The poster's comments are delusional.

It's funny how often this is the attitude FCS fans take in regards to moving up. Poor schmucks, they seem to really believe it too. 03-lmfao

it's not uncommon, like the MTSU poster noted, most FCS teams think that they could come in and run the table in the SBC.

Sadly, there are some at my own university who think that.

Me? The only thing that will "cushion" our arrival in the SBC is that we will be full fledged FBS squad by the time we join. Won't make us world beaters, but should soften our landing some.

I expect Texas State to take their lumps for atleast three seasons. After that, they should be competing for a title. I look forward to our match-ups in Troy.

I'm happy to swap UNT for Texas State. Keeps us in Texas, which is important IMHO.

If we are competing for the SBC title three years after first stepping foot on the field as members, I'll be doing backflips.

I know folks don't expect much from FCS transitional teams (nor should they, it's a significant change in competition even from top tier FCS to MAC), I just want us to keep things respectable the first three years.

Now, "respectable" is indeed a goal for all of us newbies. It's gonna be a rough go for short dough this season for sure.
