Agree on all points. Maybe it was the competition, but Lester looked really good.

I got the sense from Pera's tweet that this was our decision; not Spence's. Pera apparently told Berman that is wasn't a character issue, but refused to comment further.

Probably was a grade or test score issue if I had to guess.

In other news, JT Trauber appears to be walking back on to the team.

RE: Men's Basketball Recruiting
Coach Mance recently started following 2017 6'9" PF Jared Pearre on twitter. From McKinney, TX with current offers from St. Bonaventure and UT-Rio Grande Valley (according to twitter). Apparently also held offers from Incarnate Word, UTEP, and SHSU at one point in 2015-16.

Coach Kreider recently started following 2017 6'3" G Carl Pierre. He has apparently committed to play a prep year, but just received a 2017 offer from UMass. He was named all-state in Massachusetts by USA today.

Edit: also, a Trinity Grad named Brian Goll has a profile suggesting he is an incoming basketball grad assistant. He is being followed by Coaches Mance, Linebaugh, and Kreider. He is following all 3 of them, as well as Rice Athletics, Rice Basketball, Tanner Gardner, and Rhett Bonner.

If we are still going after a 2017, and we're not gonna get another guard, Pearre looks like an interesting kid. He was the defensive MVP of his league and looks like he's putting up decent AAU numbers. Plus he's a Texas kid. With Corey gone, I'm not sure we have a true interior rim defender anymore, although Austin and Tim have shown brief flashes.

Pierre went to my high school. Good, high character kid who put up great numbers in MA's toughest non-prep school league (Catholic Conference).

Nobody knew why he wasn't getting D1 interest until recently, as he would scorch other D1 commits when they played. That said, if the Umass interest holds, I would expect him to commit to UMass over Rice.

Hopefully we can sign both Pierre and Pearre so we can feature a Pera, Pierre and Pearre on our roster.

According to this article we're going hard after 2018 G Mac McClung. Point guard with crazy athleticism. Unfortunately, he's starting to get calls from power conference teams, so I'm not sure how long his interest will last. Also gonna attach some highlights below.

Offer to 2019 G Javonne Lowery. He's 6-4 out of Pearland.

Also a new offer to 2019 G Anderson Kopp. He's a Houston kid and is interesting because his brother (Miller Kopp) is a 2018 G whose stock is rising rapidly. Miller is a high academic 2018 G who has offers from Northwestern, Texas A&M, Vanderbilt, and VCU, among others. I don't know if we're going after Miller, I have no clue if he has any interest in us*, and I don't know how good Anderson is in comparison, but getting these two would be massive. There's also a third, 2020 Kopp.

*In a recent article, Miller Kopp said the 5 schools prioritizing him the most are Northwestern, Vanderbilt, Wichita State, Kansas State, and Houston.

Sounds like if we have a shot, we should take it.

Sounds like Big Baller Brands might be interested.

Next year's roster. Owen, Youngkin and J.T. Trauber are all on it, so that's 3 returning walk-ons and 12 scholarship Owls (1 sitting out as a transfer). No idea if one of the walk-ons will be put on scholarship for next year.

Yeah, I believe the 2019 contact period just officially began. According to Twitter, Rice has reached out to a bunch of 2019 guys, but it's hard to keep track of who is actually garnering serious interest.

RE: Men's Basketball Recruiting
We had a visit from Connor Vanover this weekend, who's an extremely interesting recruit. He's a 2018 7-4 center, and listed as a 4* by Scout and a 3* by other services. He recently took a visit to Tulsa, and took a visit to Memphis last year. According to twitter he has offers from Alabama, Ole Miss, SMU, Memphis, and Arkansas with interest from a lot of other big schools. He plays AAU ball on the Nike EYBL circuit with some good 18/19 teammates (kids w/ offers from Tulsa, Purdue, TCU, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Depaul). What makes him interesting is his #s for a 7-4 kid...He shot 55.3% from the field, but more impressively shot 14-32 from 3 (43.8%). He also rebounded well and was averaged 2.5+ blocks per game. He was also part of the U16 USA team that won the FIBA championship, but played sparingly in 4 games.
