He's very tall and thin (7-1, 212) and is definitely raw from the videos I've seen, but I think the extra year probably has helped his body grow a bit stronger. I don't think he'll make us forget Obi right away, but if he can add some bulk to his frame, he will help us down the road.

Love the handle "@skinnywhiteshaq"

Maybe he can find the weight Drone lost when he got to campus. Looks to have decent vert for the frame, hopefully he doesn't lose too much of that with added mass.

Notable to me from the videos I watched was a good shooting touch from mid range. It's just a highlight video, so no way to know his consistency in that area, but I think that that is a very undervalued skill for bigs in the college game.

His instagram id is skinnywhiteshaq, but someone else has that for twitter. His twitter id is BigFooter31 for those that care.

Jackson Davis will announce his college choice at 2:45 pm CT on Friday. Alabama, Butler or Rice.

Nice to be mentioned in the same line with those programs after the last few years...

Even if we don't get Jackson, maybe we can recruit his mom. She seems very well spoken and will probably be an asset to whoever manages to win her over.

Great minds think alike. That was my point of reference ... if all I know about the player is the character of his mom, I'd take my chances in saying that he'd be a great addition to the Rice family.

That's the same article cited by Ft Bend Owl earlier in the week.

Disappointing. Butler has a similar enrollment to Rice, nowhere near the academic prestige, and just a fraction of the endowment. Their basketball program is miles ahead of Rice, but it's good that we're seeing players make a decision between Rice and a team that's made it to the final four twice in this decade. I would rather that Rice win those battles, though.

I bet you we are winning those recruiting battles within a year or two with this staff. But it's up to the fan base to support the team next year, even if they are still struggling a bit to overcome the last two season attritions.

Butler is also a 2 hr drive from Louisville. Can't help but think that played a major part in his decision.

I think it's a good sign that we are in the chase until late for players of this caliber. We'll lose more than we win, at least early, but I'm encouraged by the direction.

I didn't even think about that. Alabama is a decent drive (Louisville is in NW Kentucky), but I don't even think that would be a factor in the decision, given how many other differences would take precedence.

Don't know anything about this guy, but he's transferring from VCU: http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketba...rus-lyles. He was a 3 star recruit with an offer from Ok State, according to espn. Wonder if we're in the mix...

In the three games shown on the ESPN page where he played, he averaged only 2 minutes, but the team won by an average of 18 pts. Clearly, he makes a tremendously huge impact in a short amount of time.
