Easy...news/reporting is basically entertainment.

The goal of every organizations is to gain as many viewers/followers/web hits as possible...and if you are first to break news, even when you are wrong, you can achieve all of your goals.

The days of old when any so called journalist would check, verify and check again are about as old as newspapers.
