There is rarely any big advantage to cutting off your options earlier than neccessary. Suppose a big round of realignment would have destroyed the Big East in May. Kustra would have looked pretty dumb for withdrawing 6 months earlier than he had to. Basically, it was a free 6 month insurance policy.

By splitting off the western Big-Non-Aq's we have lost our single strongest "name" team as well a significant part of our TV appeal (late west coast starts). Plus, no possible chance of landing BYU. Just throwing this out there---but if Big East officials knew this becoming more possible--- could that have been what led to Marninatto's sudden exit?
Here we go....
The presidents vote on new members, to be specific FB presidents vote on FB only schools.
lol....Im not sure what you mean. Im just saying that the Big East should have been more hands on in the coordination of the western teams olympic sports placement. Yes the presidents vote, but the commissioner executes the strategy. The demise of the WAC was easily forseeable and the Big East with a western expansion strategy has a vested interest in propping up the WAC for that purpose. Did you think I was blaming the basketball schools? Im not blaming JM for taking Boise....that was smart. Losing them---not so much.
Im sorry that was supposed to be in reply that this had to do with marrinatto being fired. My bad.

maybe we get umass fb only instead, a top of the line fcs school.
There is absolutely no reason to take any FCS school. Leave that to the Sun Belt and MAC. We can always invite them later if they develop into something special.

ECU & USM would make much more sense "All Sports" then anyone straight out of FCS if no Boise State/SDSU.

Having given it some more thought, I'm with you.
First, it's inconsistent with what I heard was Boise's 100% commitment to the Big East. From a source who has always previously been reliable when he tells me things. Second, Chris Petersen has been so down on the MWC that I have little doubt, as do Boise fans, that they will lose him if they stay in the MWC.
So I see only one way it could possibly be true. And that's if Boise isn't going to leave the MWC in 2013 but will instead wait until 2014. Even then, however, I'm feeling pretty nervous about things. I mean, how much money would it have cost the BE to pay for half of Boise's subsidization of travel costs for the Big West's unwashed masses? Half a million per year maybe? That's peanuts in comparison to the benefit of getting Boise football in.
If you remember, they have refused to pay much before. When W Virginia bolted early, the Big East wanted Boise to come in 2012, but were unwilling to shoulder much of the excessive costs connected with it. Instead, they chose to add Temple.
I agree with SleepingGF, this report doesnt really pass the smell test. Brian Murphy is the best source of all things Boise.
Oh so you think Boise would have left even earlier when we see they are dragging their feet about joining a year from now? C'mon, please. Do you think that maybe Boise didn't want to go a year early no matter what the big east was willing to do?

Contrary to what the typical MWC fan is saying, it's not at all certain that the drop dead date for Boise not having to pay a penalty to the MWC is midnight tonight. Since the conference bylaws use the term "delivery" with regard to notice of withdrawal and since the MWC offices were closed today, it's arguable Boise could still make a timely withdrawal on Monday. Of course, if that happens the MWC will demand a $5M penalty, but it seems to me there has already been some conference which sued a departing member for a similar reason and the parties just settled without litigating the issue . . .

I agree with that 100%, i'm referring to there only being a few hours left on a weekend day. It just seems if everything were "hunky dory" and on track they could created a very positive buzz and media attention over the weekend with a Friday afternoon press release celebrating the "official" change..... Then again perhaps Boise was just trying to leverage the Big West and Big East as much as possible for a lower travel subsidy that the Big East would pay...... Speculation.... it's what makes message boards so fun!

@NNVfan Boise reporter, (newspaper not TV) also came back later with a source saying report was bogus. Boise source > Vegas source on this.

They do not need to send any message if they are staying. Its assummed. They only need to send one if they are withdrawing. The deadlinw would be midnight tonight Denver time---so we wont know for sure until then.

The MWC and C-USA fans were already getting extremely annoying. But we got the last laugh, thank goodness.

LOL...absolutely no bias whatsoever in that newscaster's report.
Rumor has it that that news guy once said this about people escaping oppressive regimes to come to America:
"With a high crime rate, a weak economy, and political disagreemens within the country, why leave North Korea to go to America?"
