Man I hope there is not a shred of ruth in this, but, a coworker VT alum who's pretty into the football program just told me there's rumors swriling in the VT circles that Beamer is retiring after the '14 season and Wilder may be the heir apparent.

03-puke

Please somebody squash this rumor now, for my well being.

If those Turkeys don't hire Foster the program will completely be gutted. Foster is the heir apparent. He is just jerking your chain. Plus why would Bobby want to leave for another FBS program ? Love saying FBS and ODU !!!

Not saying this particular rumor isn't true, but I wouldn't be surprised if Wilder's name is "swirling in circles" after the last few years. It's only going to get more prominent in the next couple years (provided we're successful). At any rate, he did sign a 10-year extension less than a year ago in December that runs through the 2021 season. It would seem, by all factual accounts (not rumor mills), that he's committed to stay for a while.

This. But if they did offer Wilder I think he'd leave us in a second.

I think he's just yanking your chain.

Here are two active Tech message boards, and I'm not seeing anything:

VT is not going to hire a HC with zero FBS coaching experience.

No way in hell. There are plenty FBS and BCS coaches and highly regarded assistants that would be in line for that (over rated) gig.

RE: Wilder
At one time, the turkey and the bald eagle were each considered as the national symbol of America. Benjamin Franklin was one of those who argued passionately on behalf of the turkey. Franklin felt the turkey, although "vain and silly", was a better choice than the bald eagle, whom he felt was "a coward".

Do we really think Bobby wants to go from being the King of the Jungle to a "vain and silly" creature who hasn't evolved since the 1700's?

Not to keep the rumor going, but by the time it happens, won't BW have FBS experience?

True, as a transitional team. As highly as I think of BW, it is highly unlikely.

They just mention that they hope Wilder is on the short list when Beamer doe retire. Nice to see our coach getting respect from outside, even if it is VT.

They've already GUARANTEED Foster the job....that has been in place for years.

And Wilder isn't leaving a head coaching job for a coordinator position so I am pretty sure this is bunk.

Tell your friend he doesn't know what he is talking about and to enjoy the Bud Foster error......I mean era lol.

RE: Wilder
I hope they do keep Foster. Tek has been the epitome of an over achieving team that falters on the national stage. We don't call them the Chokies for nothing. I sure wouldn't want Tek to hire a modern forward thinking coach like BW.
