How are the scores calculated? Do all sports receive equal points or is football weighted?

Believe a school must score at least 1 pt to be including in the rankings.
Seton Hall did not score a pt in any sport.

But all newbies finished below WVU, Syracuse and TCU...so other than to bash Pitt what does it say?

It is a way to rationalize the losses, albeit not the best example.

Just thought it was interesting...especially how those CUSA teams didn't get the benefit of playing in much better conferences for sports like Football, Basketball, Soccer, etc...like Big East teams got.
Also, thought it was interesting that all 4 of those CUSA teams finished in the Top 5 overall for their conf...which should help them transition come Big East time in 2013-2014....(much more so if they finished at/near the bottom in CUSA).

Rutgers still being in the triple digits is embarassing and frankly inexcusable. The only positive spin I can put on it is we jumped from 158 last year to 111 this year. Now if we can make a similar jump next year that'd be great.

RU has a good chance to move up again.
Football: RU should move up from 4th place last season...as WVU is long-gone (team almost always finished ahead of RU in conf standings and a team RU has lost to in 17 straight games).
Men's Basketball: RU "should" improve on their 6-12, tied for 11th in Big East standing next year.
Improve in just those 2 sports...RU should easily finish in the Top 75 or so (maybe higher).

Director's Cup is a joke--how did we do in the Capital One Cup?

Its been a round for a long time (believe Sears sponsored it for many, many years).
It serves a purpose...and gives reconginition to those schools with the best all-around sports programs...which also puts the limelight on those with terrible all-sports programs (i.e. like Seton Hall, which weren't even ranked in any of the 277 slots).

RE: Big East (and overall) Final Director Cup Standings
It's great and all as a gauge of overall athletic departments, but I really only care about how we do in our main 3 sports. We had a pretty damn good year in basketball and football, and went 13-1 in conference in women's basketball. Had our streak of 8 straight WNCAAT appearances snapped unfortunately. We suck at baseball and soccer, and I really dont care about women's sports. We dont have the other two sports I care about, men's lacrosse and hockey.

And the way it's done is they count the highest 10 men's and 10 women's sports - we only have 6 men's sports

Pitt did poorly in the Director's Cup competition this past year, but I'm not going to lose sleep over it. I only care about a handful of sports anyways like football, basketball, baseball, wrestling, track & field and swimming/diving. Also, Pitt only sponsors 17 teams between men's and women's sports, so it's not like they will ever win the thing anyways. However, breaking 100 would be nice at least.

RE: Big East (and overall) Final Director Cup Standings
I see that there are 186 schools listed with an SEC school (Mississippi State) ranked at 126.
Most of the new schools coming into the Big East will improve dramatically in the standings in a few years due to all of the advantages of belonging to a richer and more prestigious conference. Having more money to spend on non-revenue sports will make a huge diffference, not to mention the effect of improved perceptions.

Hmm this makes me even more pleased with how Kent State is doing...except for football of course where we still suck (well relatively speaking it was an OK year for us last year).
