[split] Hockey East to Invite UCONN (smack)

It won't surprise me if they did. They are bunch of small time thinkers full of envy in everything we do. It won't be long before we beat them on the ice as well. There are a ton of hockey talent in New England and nearby Canada.

There has been no thaw in the New England "Cold War".

If the story is true, BC has shown itself to be the most petty school on the North American continent.

Except the story is likely not true. The "source" on the Boneyard made a joke saying that the vote was 8-1 with BC holding the lone "no" vote. He then said that "he had just made that up." The fact is that the vote has not been released (and there are currently 10 HE votes, not 9).

I doubt BC voted against Uconn. Unlike football, BC plays a dozen or so local schools at the highest levels of college hockey. Having one more school join the fray matters little to BC in the whole scheme of things. Besides, HE is comprised of major NE schools and it makes sense for Uconn to join.

About the "BC on suicide watch" comment; really?? BC is the most dominant college hockey program in the country. 5 National Championships - 4 in the last decade and 3 in the last 5 years. 7 Frozen 4's in the past 10 years. 8 HE Titles in the past 10 years. The fact is that no school other than Michigan's run in the early 1960's even approaches that level of dominance.

Will Uconn beat BC in any given game? Sure. Eventually. A few times. Thats the nature of HE. (Heck, even the BC Men's BB team has beaten the mighty Uconn Men's BB team a few times!) However, if Uconn wants to surpass BC as a Program, they will first have to surpass teams like BU, Minnesota, Michigan, Denver, UNH, Maine, etc. as we have left them all in our wake.

BTW, Uconn won't just be competing with BC for talent, it will be competing with all the other NE hockey powers as well. BC has the best coach in the game and our program is pretty much the envy of college hockey. Pretty easy sell to the best hockey talent. (Jerry's message to hockey recruits is pretty simple: "Come to BC and you will get a degree from a Top 30 academic institution AND at least one National Championship ring. A promise he has been pretty much able to keep over the past decade.)

Will BC fans be mad about HE expansion. Probably. However, that anger has more to do with the fact that additional HE opponents means that there will likely be fewer games against BU - a team we REALLY care about.

Oh, and Husky, re: the 3 BC fans, you might want to check the attendance figures for 2011-12. You will find that BC finished 5th in the country for attendance - and lead HE by a country mile. We shall see how Uconn does playing Friday night games in downtown Hartford.

Hey no matter how bad BCU is at other sports, you guys can always have hockey. Now you have to deal with us in hockey too and you know it will just be matter of time before we take you guys down.

As I said above, HE is VERY competitive. Any given game, teams quite often beat other more highly rated teams. Nobody wins 100% of the time.

On the subject of "no matter how bad" BC is in other sports, you might want to look up the results of the past year in the sports where BC and Uconn DID play one another. I think you will be surprised by the results!

As far as Uconn "taking BC down" - as a hockey program? Well, you will have to get in line. Every hockey program in the country is trying to do that. So far, none have been very successful.

Saying that Uconn will "take down" BC in hockey is like saying that Uconn FB will "take down" Alabama in FB. Like Alabama, BC Hockey doesn't rebuild, it reloads its team. Take this past year - it was supposed to be a rebuilding year. All this "rebuilding" team did was win the Beanpot, HE Title, and the National Championship.

BTW, Husky, speaking of CFB, what is happening to UCONN recruiting in CT? BC is cleaning Uconn's clock this year as the the #1, #2, and #4 ranked CT players have verbaled to BC so far (making up for a somewhat disappointing performance in the state of MA to date).

Keep it civil folks. You're all on the borderline between turning this into a smackfest.

You seriously need to stop gloating until recruiting season is over. There are number of things you did not mention and I don't even follow recruiting that closely.

Boyle (QB) committed to you guys but he wants a FLA offer. When that comes, he is gone. Remember Graham Stewart? It could be the exact same situation. UCONN got a commit from QB Lagow from Texas. On top of that, QB is not a big need at CT now with 5 QBs already on the roster.

Issacs the TE is pretty much going to MD even though he is a BCU commit. It could happen anyday now since Edsall had a relationship with him while he was at UCONN.

You got Jasudowich (#4) who might really be the only kid you end up with.

BCU is also offering Thomas who is a CT commit. I am pretty sure the kid will stick with UCONN.

UCONN only got 15-18 scholarships to give this year so coach P is being selective. He has a lot of offers out but it does not mean he will focus on all the kids. We will see we do when the recruiting season is over.

How many schollies Uconn has is really irrelevant. Uconn offered all 3 and they were prioritis for the Uconn staff.

Boyle already has a FLA offer. (Unless you want to make the same excuse that BC fans made when they lost Sylva to Uconn that their offer was somehow not really "committable".) He has said he is solid to BC and is not interested in FLA. He fell in love with the school. Uconn folks keep saying that Issacs is gone to MD. However, he has had a MD offer for awhile now and he has not decommitted from BC to take the MD offer. It seems MD is not the sure thing you think it is.

Re any gloating, please; when Uconn got Sylva from Mass, you gloated all over these boards. Had Uconn been able to get the #1,#2, and #4 recruits, you would be all over these boards and rubbing BC's nose in it. The fact remains they chose BC over Uconn. This is a fact.

UCONN also has offers out to over 100 other kids for 15-18 spots. Do the math and you will realize 80%+ of those kids won't end up at UCONN. Coach P will take the ones that commit first and cut off the rest at the same position. What's your point? Coach P's recruiting style is quite different than Edsall's. He will narrow his list down at some point and get the ones he wants. Just because these kids had UCONN offers does not mean they are on top of UCONN's list.

UCONN and BCU fans can't stay in the same thread for more than a few posts without going into some form of pissing contest. We hate their guts and I am sure they feel the same way. They are those annoying arrogant super fans who has accomplished nothing yet they think they are something.

Here is a pic of what most UCONN fans think of a BCU super fan.

RE: Hockey East to Invite UCONN
I am going to send some of these posts to the smack board, as I feel you guys are getting off-topic. Bottom line is, UConn will now be competing in Hockey East. I am pleased about this but have some concerns about our arena(s). I hope we get an on-campus stadium constructed soon.
