Rugby and Lacrosse?
http://www.herald-dispatch.com/news/mars...um-complex
At the end of the article it says that markers are being put for the Rugby and Lacrosse club teams. Could it be that the sports could eventually make the jump from club to the the next level? Rugby has good support on campus and Lacrosse is one of the fastest growing sports in America. Thoughts?

Any other teams in CUSA play these sports? Then, consider Title IX. Conclusion: little chance of this happening.

You could always counter title IX with adding womens rugby with it,and some other small womens sport? Im sure if it were to ever happen we could find a home for them within another conference.

I don't see us starting another sport unless the NCAA or conferece we are in mandates it. The cheapest sport to add that would be feasible I think would be bowling. We wouldn't have to build any facilities, we have two bowling allies near campus. We would only have to have 12 scholarships, 6 men, 6 women. And the only thing that would need to be bought are uniforms, balls/bags, bowling gloves, towls and powder to keep your hands dry.

There is no NCAA Rugby.

As for Lacrosse, it would be easy and cost effective to replace baseball with it. If not, you could just pick up womens lacrosse.

We will not be dropping baseball. Hamrick already has a plan for a new stadium on campus that will be released most likely after the IPF gets started. He was the AD that raised money and hired the contractors at ECU to build their baseball stadium.

There are tournaments hosted by schools though for Rugby. Alot of fun to watch. I can't see replacing baseball with it however it is more fun to watch imo.

I watched 2 years of Super12/14 Rugby to learn the game. I didn't know what was happening the last game I watched from the 1st game I watched. I done the samething with hockey my Soph year of HS. I understood hockey 1/2 way through the season. But rugby I never could get it.

Rugby might be picked up by the ncaa in the future, I think 7s could take off.

See im the opposite baseball is like watching paint dry to me, not saying to replace it though. I watch rugby when they have practice on campus, I guess thats how its easier to understand for me, has some elements of American football and some of other sports. Ive heard Wrestling brought up too, not sure what the following for college wrestling is though.

I like watching college or amature wrestling. Not sure what conference we would go to though. I know the MAC, CAA and SoCon sponsor wrestling. I know Western Michigan, Kent State, ODU, and Davidson are all usually ranked.

Marshall used to have wresling. I think we dropped it the year we became full members of the SoCon. That was in 1981.

Just saying, in the foreseeable future, I can't see any sport being added.

Yeah I know, just saw that little tid bit at the end of the column and thought it was interesting that they were going to add markers for club things. If anyone is on campus id suggest stopping in to watch them, they really are fun to watch and the kids really go hard in it.

Started following Lacrosse recently. I like it! Don't see it being more than a club sport for a while.

I know Marshall has a club hockey team if you can call them that. I have a few friends that played last year and I doubt it will last though, they played their games in Wheeling and Charleston.
