Wager?

I predict UTEP will have 54K for it's opener vs. Oklahoma.

Our average will probably be close to 40K this year.

Sure...how about the loser pays GTS $25 for Server costs? Do you guys track attendance by turnstile or distrubuted? I imagine OU fans are buying some season tix to ensure a seat and will dump the other games.

Good cause.... It's on!

Yes assuming the crowds look fairly legit...I realize OU will sell out...will the others be within 5k of announced?

Congrats to UTSA. It sounds like they will make an impact in the C-USA.

I don't care how they fill it. Just fill the damn thing. At least we'll look a bit more like a legitimate football conference on TV.

Some of the other CUSA schools could learn a thing or 2 about getting the local market interested in your program.

RE: UTSA Selling Season Tickets in 3rd Deck
UTSA is working very hard to make college football a part of San Antonio.

Money off of tickets sales is not important. Let's fill the dome with a rocking crowd.

A packed Alamodome can only bode well for our conference and better recruiting.

In order to sell tickets regardless of prices there has to be an interest and a demand. Apparently there appears to be interest and demand for UTSA Football. On the other hand, UAB could sell season tickets for $5 and not get 20,000 to a game at Legion Field......right blunderbliss???

for a moment there, I thought you guys were saying UTEP sold $50 season tickets and single game tickets would be only $8

Well, people will actually have to pay actual money, or find a different coupon, for the Texas State football game. All other UTSA games this season have free admission.

Agree...and I think that is what UTSA is doing.

Hard to move potential buyers from "never going to a game to full donor/booster with club seats" without first trying out the product.

Its the simple adoption phase in regards to the buying cycle...they are doing the best they can to get people to "try out" their product, with some very good season tix deals and per game promotions (some which include free tix).

Props to UTSA...as maybe some other schools with say too large stadiums for most of their home games can learn a thing or two about promotions.

Exactly......... UTSA hired a huge marketing firm to push the product, and as you can see their suggestion is working. 02-13-banana

Of course ECU fans (being the experts on how a fanbase should be and attendance) don't agree. Only a good fanbase pays top dollar and still fills their stadium, despite how long they've been playing football, in their eyes. UTSA should be giving away tickets for soda cans. Free samples to come out and see a packed house and hopefully a great game. Get the city buzzing and talking. UTSA isn't the only game in town in San Antonio, like it is in Greenville and Hattisburg. They have to compete for attention.

Like I said, I don't care how UAB does it, just make it happen. Selling tickets for a discounted price is still much better than selling no ticket at all and therefore no concessions, etc. I'm really hoping y'all get a OCS by the way.

There seems to be a direct correlation to average TV contract and average attendance figures. People want to watch games with good atmosphere. Fans in the stands indicates people are interested in the team. Interest in the team means people will watch said team's away games, etc.

pirate1975(?) had an excellent analysis on this. If I can find it, I'll post it.

ECU fans don't agree???? Hell, I'm the one that said fill it by any means neccessary. I couldn't care less how they do it. I applaud UTSA for their strategy.

Where have you seen single game tickets for 35? Cheapest home tickets I see are $45.

By bad, had not looked, figured some would be $35 like UTEP and Memphis to sell more.

I think we are going to start getting to a point where our tickets are too high for the quality of teams we play. This is getting really close right now. $45 to see us play Memphis is kinda a joke. $50 to play App is really a joke, but I understand that's to rob the App fans blind.

Single game tix are $12 in the 3rd deck or $8 if you buy as a group. I bought 50 and I'm charging everyone $10 so I can get some tailgate supplies with the $2 profit per tix.

Ignoring your smug and arrogant attitude and getting to the main point you are making if you get people in the habit of thinking they can come for free and never really have to make any kind of investment it's not good long term. People who are buying season tickets will start to realize they don't have to, and the less season tickets you sell the more your attendance will be driven by the play on the field each individual year. However, I can understand the other side of the argument that you need to get people in the door and to see the product. I like the way ODU has done it, with a stadium that in the short term is too small, thereby creating major demand for people to get season tickets and creating a waiting list, but when you have a really nice facility being mostly unused like the Alamo Dome it's hard to say no to that. I like the Charlotte is not taking the easy option and building their own stadium. I'm a huge fan of OCS even if it's clearly not as nice as the pro facility.

You're right, we do get to comment on attendance, if its the last damn thing we comment on. Thats because we run this ship when it comes to that. So dont be snide with us tin can man.

Actually for NFL + college football it essentially is...unless you are driving to Austin, College Station, Dallas, Houston, etc...there is 2 million people with no local NFL or CFB teams.

I think UTSA football is going to be the second most important team besides the Spurs in San Antonio by a wide margin.

There was a recent sports study that essentially said San Antonio can't support any other major league pro sports teams besides the Spurs. So, we are going to have the Spurs and a bunch of minor league pro teams.

The sports landscape for a while in San Antonio should be something like #1 Spurs, #2 UTSA Football, #3 Rampage Hockey/Missions Baseball/Scorpions Soccer/Arena Football Talons.

Those teams in #3 can get pretty good support. For example, the Rampage had 11,000 fans for a game this season.

All the teams run all sorts of crazy promotions to get people in the seats. And, San Antonio is a pretty big walk up/buy at the last second town.

Reports of good season ticket sales makes me happy. Hopefully we can get football practice/training facilities built sooner than later. That's the thing holding us back right now.
