I tell you, if we truely have really access to the four team playoff and just not token access, then I am good with Louisville staying. However, there is still all the above to consider right now.
1) No TV contract
We have a TV contract and we can't even start discussing our next contract on the open market until after ESPN gets their window of exclusivity this Fall.
2) No commissioner
Successful searches are never vetted publicly. The moment they do its signs that they are not going well. See the Hobbit Friar boy. There was no news for months after Trangheses retired. It was only time had passed that we started hearing whispers that they were looking at internal candidates and became the worst kept secret that Marrianto was going to take over. We all know what happened there....but our Presidents let this happen not the media, fans or other conferences.
3) No assurance that we will remain a power Conference
Not sure how a new commish would fix this since its market forces that is driving realignment, TV contracts and revenue sharing. If we ever stablize nBE 3.0 it could be a nice conference and should be able to put a couple quality teams every year that can compete with anyone. We'll never have the depth of the SEC in terms of quality teams but we have programs with potential to be national programs.
4) Not having our own BCS bowl opportunity
The bottom line is that none of the proposed 6 proposed BCS bowls will want to get 'stuck' with the ACC or BigEast. The Orange Bowl is not yet sold or publicly committed to keeping the ACC as a long-term anchor conference so its not like the BigEast is going to be alone in this situation.
5) The Boise issues
This situation is still playing itself out. Plus I am sure that in reviewing all the contingencies the Big East must have listed Boise's other sports as a potential problem. I am neutral on Boise. It's a great upstart program but with the death of AQ status and their remoteness compared to the rest of the league I am not sure how stable of an arrangement this is long-term if BSU can't find a good home for their Olympic sports.
6) The continual media attack
What could the BE effectively do other than win more games? It's not like the new commish can issue an edict to the media, blogosphere et al to
'stop being mean to the Big East'. The other thing to think about is that the media loves to attack the big east b/c they perceive the league...fairly or not....as undeserving of AQ status. However with AQ status no longer in existence anything we do will be "EARNED" through a team having an undefeated season and hopefully some quality OOC victories along the way. If anything else the Big East champion may be seen much like the Cinderella story such as TCU or Boise were out of the MWC. IMO, the ACC may soon become the media's new whipping boy, especially since most of the big programs are rumored to be wanting to jump ship to other conferences. Sound Familiar?
7) The appearance that New Big East is just looking like one cluster #uck!
The original Big East looked like a cluster. Big East 2.0 was much of the same and nBE 3.0 is being talked about like its dead much like the first two iterations.....yet the league finds a way.

Honestly, we will have as much access as we have had in the past or deserved. We've been close three times in getting our champion into the MNC game with Cincy, UL and WVU. Cincy's fate was out of their control but if UL and WVU would have won games they were favorites in they would have gone to the big dance. So again, we'll likely need an undefeated champion but we will get as much access as we have in the past. Plus if we ever get "screwed" by the selection committee we will likely have the media for us instead of against us. That is just how the media works...
The only real issue is how revenue is shared. If the Big East is not viewed as an equal or at least close to what the Big 4/5 are getting then you will start seeing the league marginalized as perception is turned into reality. Hard to compete nationally when a traditionally terrible programs are bringing 4X as much revenue. The revenue distribution model is the only thing that really matters or will change. Let's just see how it works out.....
