BE needs to invite BYU, AFA or Fresno NOW
At first I was convinced that the BE should just wait it out on a #14. Convinced the BE should just stand pat, negotiate a TV deal and hope to land BYU. But with this news about Boise (if we can trust it), the BE needs to act fast. They need to invite one of the trio, BYU, AFA, or Fresno now and get this show on the road. This will do a couple of things. First, it will gaurantee that Boise follows through with it's plan to join BE. I believe they have every intention of joining BE, but this will only gaurantee it. Second, it will further destabalize the MWC, making that conference a less desirable fall back option. And of course it will balance out the BE with East and Western divisions and give the western teams a solid home. It is time for the BE to strike now!

They better make it happen and fast. The other option is to give Boise an all sports invite, which I am totally ok with.

Agreed.
Even if BYU doesn't want to join, I'd still love to have Fresno and AFA for what they would provide for the long term strength of the West division. I honestly don't see what the BE is waiting on.

The BE doesn't need to do anything until they see what happens with Boise. And if Boise is okay, then there is no rush for #14.

Break even, compared to anybody else, except BYU.

No one will be added before a new commish comes on board. Nothing has changed in the last week, rumors are just that. As for bowls and TV deals, nothing happens for a while.

They need to bring on Boise as a full member on a temporary basis. Make it a no exit fee membership for the olympic sports renewable every 2 or 3 years. That way when a better situation comes open for Boise they can easily jump. It takes away the uncertainty and gives Boise some breating room to find a good home for thier olympics. This would probably make a Big West invite easier to obtain because the Big West leverage dissappears. Everyone could deal with the situation in the short term and the Boise share could be worked out to mimic the Big West money without travel subsidies. That means Boise would earn more than they would have in the Big West, and the hit to the Big East team bottom lines would be minimal. It would be a temporary situation.

little rough to ask volleyball, tennis teams etc to go to all the way from USF or UCONN to Boise

Lets not blow it out of proportion. They would do it once. Conference teams would have to travel to Boise once a year. Some sports do centrally located meets where multiple teams get together in a tournament style competition. I think tennis and golf are like that. Those teams would never travel to Boise. The truth is--it would be harder on Boise than it is any of the existing Big East schools. But thier travel situation would not be much worse than Houston and SMU's.
Its not an ideal situation---but the Big East did a piss poor job of manageing this aspect of the far western football only additions---If the Big East had organized it in a way that systematically moved all football-onlys olympics to the WAC, this could have been avoided. But thats in the past. The current situation needs to be dealt with.

You may have just found the solution. I wonder if be has thought of this. Offer them a temp home until they do find a permanent home. Make it renewable every couple years. If they want to continue in be then fine. Or If they find a better solution they can leave without penalty. Someone should fwd this idea to the be

But, in that situation, would we ever want to leave? I'm no expert on the numbers, but I would think the extra revenue we get from hosting the likes of UCONN, Notre Dame, etc. in basketball may offset all or most of the travel costs. Maybe I'm wrong, but perhaps make it a maximum 2-year offer, than we get the boot. Of course I'm all for full membership, just looking at it from the perspective of the other schools and what would be best for the conference.

RE: BE needs to invite BYU, AFA or Fresno NOW
They should have already invited Fresno, BYU or Air Force...this is a balancing game. At this time BE needs to present more information about TV $ to attract those teams they feels are bigger and better (BYU or AFA) ... in all reality they already invited those two schools, but BYU was too demanding at the time (probably still is) and Air Force said we need more information (ie show us the money).
In my opinion they should have invited Fresno State a month or two ago. By them waiting to invite Fresno State it has help to make this situation even worse for BSU... Fresno State could have helped BSU get in the BW but now this whole BSU to the BE/BW look unstable, undesireable, and unknown. BSU will have to either bite the bullet/ take the leap of faith or get off the pot. BSU will do what they think is best for their school... if they dont get into the BW I see that they might stay in the MWC.
One idea that passed my mind while reading perhaps this method of waiting for BSU is trying to get the BE to give them a full invite. Perhaps BSU thinks that by waiting BE might hit the panic button and give out a full invite. I dont see that happening.

The Big East has already talked to BYU and AF. If the Big East needs a western team pronto they should invite Fresno. If the rumors of Boise staying in the MWC are true, though. Does it make sense for Fresno to leave? If the rumors are true, the Big East is in a dilemma.

Frankly it is too late to invite any school right now... BE is stuck waiting to wheel and deal the TV contract first before an invite can go out. I just think this whole situation was the perfect storm and perhaps short sighted. BE was stuck on BYU and AFA both said no and BE never consider any other team or consequences for the Western division. Frankly I think that some of you are right... now that AQ is gone and BE is not considered one of the 4 or 5 power conferences BSU is not needed like it was before.

I don't think Boise is looking to join for all sports. The expense would be too much. Some Boise fans have posted that Kustra has already said that, so that is not a solution. Not to mention, nobody in the BE seems willing to do that.

Ladies...ladies...it was Boise that required the football-only invite...not the BE.

There is no great need to rush any invites. BYU doesn't need to jump, and as of today has no reason to jump. Adding Fresno today changes nothing. Boise deal depends on Big West, everyone says throw $$ at them, but no one really knows if that would change things, nor if it has already been offered. The BE is in a holding pattern until new commish is on board and TV negotiations can begin. Adding a school does nothing to speed up those projects. Adding a school will not change how the big 5 and ESPN talk of the BE. All the rumors going on right now are just simply board chatter, and don't matter either.

Right. The Big East might have to pay travel if that's the case. Or give up that money to the Big West. I do believe that's what the Big West is waiting on. More money.
