RE: Ron Paul's Next Move?
IMO Paul at this point just wants to advance Rand's career (which looks to culminate in 4 years with his own presidential run). He's told his delegates to be civil and respectful at the convention and doesn't seem interested in a floor fight. It's disappointing to see a man who's given the finger to the establishment for 30 years to all of a sudden play ball.

RE: Ron Paul's Next Move?
What's more amusing to me is that when I scrolled down to the Comments section of that linked article, here was the very first comment I saw:

Quote:Go Ron Paul! Nothing in the world could be better than for the roof to fall in on that nazi convention.

I don't know if the commenter is a Paul fan, or a liberal rooting for Paul just for the sake of chaos, or whatever. But it's been interesting to me how casual and frequent the "Nazi/Fascist" label has become over time (and if you want to throw in "commie", too, when describing Obama, go ahead). The cheeky creation of Godwin's Law certainly had a lot of truth behind it.

People don't even look for the qualities that make a Nazi, Fascist, Communist, etc. Fascist is thrown around the worst for people not knowing what the hell they're talking about.

RE: Ron Paul's Next Move?
George Orwell (1903-50) had a great quote back in the 1940s, basic gist of it was that a lot of people used the word "fascist" to simply mean "anything or anyone I don't like".

65 years later, that hasn't changed, except the passage of time has dulled the emotional force of the word "fascist" so people say "Nazi" instead.

He's still pushing the Audit the Fed bill very hard. I think that's his main focus right now and what he views as his last big hurrah.

I hope that he ends up endorsing Gary Johnson. Rand has already cast his lot by endorsing Romney.

True. To be fair, I don't think that anyone has really defined fascist yet.

RE: Ron Paul's Next Move?
Ron Paul has no moves left. I said that his 400 or so delegates are meaningless, and Tom hit on why that's true. Ron has to be concerned with Rand's future, and the GOP establishment can make things very, very tough for Rand. If Ron, or his delegates, rock the boat too much in Tampa, then Rand is finished. That message has been delivered. So don't expect much out of the Paulites.

RE: Ron Paul's Next Move?
I agree that he is positioning Rand for 2016. Much like I think Bill Clinton is positioning Hillary for '16.

But I also believe that RP sees that it is most important to get the big O out of the WH in this election. I don't believe that in his mind it takes precedence over positioning his son, though.

People know what the Fascist economic model entails. At least I and a few others know. It's the ones that think free-market capitalist conservatives are Fascists that are completely ignorant of the term.

Jesse Benton said "no chance" when asked if Ron would campaign for Johnson. :(

Yea, because the GOP has helped Rand sooooo much this far amirite? The GOP right up to elements within the RNC was fighting against Rand in the GOP primary. They still virtually never vote with Rand on his bills of substance in the Senate. Ooooooo yea some big friend the GOP has been. Ron Paul has already "there's no way" when asked if he would endorse Romney. And you're blind if you don't think 1/4 of the convention floor could cause enormous chaos in Tampa. Ron Paul has control of enough state delegations to force his name be added to the nomination list. That requires a speech at the RNC. He has control of enough state delegations to force his name be added to the VP nomination list, which would force a lengthy OPEN VOTE on who the VP could be. That could suck an entire day down the drain, as delegations squabble over Rubio or Christie or Rand or Ron. They can significantly slow down even the boring stuff with procedural tactics. They can make Romney look REALLY bad with the strength they already have.

RE: Ron Paul's Next Move?
Greta van Sustren and Shepard Smith are liberals?? Where do you come up with this? Beckel is, but he's outnumbered 5:1 on his own show.

Fast and Furious is hardly a scandal worthy of sustained national media attention. Some ATF bureaucrats in Phoenix tried to track Mexican drug lords with a stupid scheme. It gets more attention on Fox because it was broken by a crazy right wing blogger who alleges the government knew about the OKC bombing in advance, that Marine helicopters above his house are preparing for drills to be used against the American people, and who posted this crap that led to windows broken in among others, Gabby Gifford's office:

http://sipseystreetirregulars.blogspot.c...is-is.html
Quote:So, if you wish to send a message that Pelosi and her party cannot fail to hear, break their windows.

Break them NOW.

Break them and run to break again. Break them under cover of night. Break them in broad daylight. Break them and await arrest in willful, principled civil disobedience. Break them with rocks. Break them with slingshots. Break them with baseball bats.

But BREAK THEM.

The time has come to take your life, your liberty and that of your children and grandchildren into your own two hands and ACT.

It is, after all, more humane than shooting them in self defense.

And if we do a proper job, if we break the windows of hundreds, thousands, of Democrat party headquarters across this country, we might just wake up enough of them to make defending ourselves at the muzzle of a rifle unnecessary.

Sons of Liberty, this is your time.

Break their windows.

Break them NOW.

This crazy person was convinced Fast and Furious was an Obama conspiracy to grab his guns (by giving away guns!) and bring more illegals to the US. Never mind this whole sh!tty idea was first conceived and implemented under Bush's watch (Operation Wide Receiver). Of course Fox News tries to mainstream the guy and treat him like some expert....

http://mediamatters.org/blog/201109280010
Quote:Vanderboegh has been featured in two packaged reports by Fox News correspondent William La Jeunesse, the most recent of which aired on September 27; the blogger was also cited by the correspondent in a FoxNews.com article earlier this month. Fox has identified Vanderboegh as an "online journalist" and an "authority on the Fast and Furious investigation," leaving his extremist past, use of violent rhetoric, and propensity for conspiracy theories unmentioned.

.... which leads to more conservatives buying into this theory, until it reaches mainstream conservatard talk radio and the Teabaggers in the House, who launch an investigation that wastes everyone's time because they bought into some wacko conspiracy and more broadly, can't tell wacko conspiracy theories apart from legitimate news stories because they watch too much Fox News.

Do you and your liberal buddies realize that Bush isn't running this year? You can stop with all the Bush references. They're irrelevant.

I still wish Johnson would pursue what I call the "two-state strategy": focus all his time and effort on New Mexico and Nevada. Form a super-PAC of his own and blanket the media in those 2 states. (They're relatively small and if Libertarians nationwide came together they could afford to do it.) Johnson and his running-mate should camp out there between now and November 6th. If they do it the right way, they would have a very solid shot at winning 11 electoral votes. Then, if Obama/Romney splits the rest about even, the whole mess gets thrown into the House of Representatives for the presidency and the Senate for the vice-presidency. Wouldn't that be fun
