Sounds like it's getting better since Calipari left.

Not too long ago, Tyreke Evans took correspondence courses. Never set foot in a campus classroom.

Evans went to class. That is simply untrue.

RE: NCAA Releases Memphis Athletics APR
Maybe I had bad info.

I have a friend in the inner circle at UT. It came down to Texas and Memphis for the kid.

Evans showed up for his visit at Texas with his guardian who was his brother/uncle as I recall.

Rick Barnes told Evans they were fine with him playing 1 year. They would design the offense for him. But the one thing they asked was that he go to class while he was in Austin.

Evans and the guardian told Barnes that Calipari promised all that at Memphis too, AND said the kid could take correspondence courses while he played. That he would never have to set foot on campus if he didn't want to.

Barnes would not agree to those conditions, and so the kid chose Memphis.

Now - is that sour grapes on UT's part? Maybe. But with the Derrick Rose irregularities and Cal's image, it sounded like a reasonable story to me.

Most colleges today offer online classes or correspondence courses where students only have to show up in a classroom a few times a semester.

Memphis, like many other Univ today, offers a slew of online courses and even undergraduate and graduate degree programs through its eCampus class line:
http://www.memphis.edu/ecampus/degree_prog.php

More and more Univ are able to increase their enrollment (i.e. collect tuition fees) with online classes without having the need to build new parking garages or new classroom buildings like they would have had to do in the past....and thats smart business.

It was actually down to Memphis and Villanova for Tyreke. People make up stories.

Haha, Reke was down to Memphis and Texas? In what universe?

Cal is a scumbag but his track record in the APR department is not shabby.
