Peter Eckstein has a real gem of a comment at the end of that article.

8M is 8M. I'm almost surprised it isn't higher given that operating revenues are low but the school manages to spend what it needs to support a lot of sports AND the sports seem to be fairly well funded.

I hope I see the day when EMU draws say 90K paying for FB (e.g., 15K x 6 home games) @ say $15+ / ticket and bring in say 1.5M for home games in addition to another 1.5 - 2.0M for away games. [These 90K would be in addition to students who get in free as part of their student fees.]

EMU needs more paying fans and a higher ticket cost. That could happen when the team wins consistently.

We'll see if '12 is a break through season (and men's basketball).

That is how it should be done... 3M in direct revenues for FB.

FB needs to bring home the bacon as Toledo did a few years ago hosting OSU in Cleveland and making a mint on the game.

Illinois State commands $300K to come to Ypsi? I bet you could get a FCS team to come in a lot less.

The only thing this article says to me is progress.

I like that EMU is upping the game guarantees in football and playing Syracuse and Kentucky in basketball. In recent years the bottom half of the MAC West had literally fallen off the D1 map and the way Eastern is scheduling is what we need.

With the Horizon League losing Butler the MAC has a chance to gain some ground in Midwest recruiting.
