Something is weird if they feel the need to hold a presser over it.

Still gotta keep in mind our "orphaned" sports that don't have a home yet.. We may need the CAA for those.

I guess it helps my nerves that I don't care about our "orphaned" sports.

They might be doing to throw it back in our faces. If that's the case, I like Evers plan.

There's no way Yeager would compliment ODU on the way they handled their departure then hold a press conference to throw it in ODU's face that we're not in the tourney.
My thought is we're playing--no need to hold a press conference to say "Uh, yeah, everyone knows the rules."
The announcement will say ODU and GSU playing in CAAT, Men's B-ball going to Philly for the CAAT, and ODU's orphans are staying in the CAA.

That's certainly your right to hold that opinion.
But take a look at our sports that C-USA does not sposor:
- Field Hockey (Final Four last year)
- Wrestling (No. 14 Recruiting Class, Ranked in Top 25 consistently)
- Sailing (consistently ranked in the Top 20 nationally)
- Lacrosse (potentially good)
I'm not saying that we HAVE to get these teams in the CAA, but to discard them as unworthy of your attention is a bit shallow. These are some solid, nationally relevant programs. For this reason alone, we can't simply say "FU" to the CAA..

RE: 3PM announcement of CAA plans and tourney eligibility
I see two outcomes as being most likely:
1) The CAA was trying to get out of their contract and move the tournament away from Richmond this year. Perhaps the delay, and now a teleconference announcement, is because they were trying to finalize that move.
2) Sticking with my first guess from a month ago... The CAA will let ODU participate if we buy our way into the tournament by paying a double or triple exit fee. That will explain the delay while ODU & GSU could make a decision.
I don't see the hold up if it was just a straight Nay vote, but if ODU & GSU decline under the #2 scenario above, they might announce it as a Nay, because technically it would be telling us, "No, you can't participate under the current agreement."

This. I doubt we'll have an issue finding a home for our "orphans" program.

RE: 3PM announcement of CAA plans and tourney eligibility
They could just be announcing shifting of the dates of the tourney to move it from ending on Monday night (made possible by NBC Sports)
I still highly doubt we leave the CAA early. Don't see why CUSA would want 13 teams for a season.
Also, sailing isn't a CAA sport, men's swimming is.

Fully agree. If there is a shinning star in our athletic program, it would be the Field Hockey program, having won more NCAA National Titles than any other.
The future conference affiliation of these sports is extremely important.

Thanks for the correction re: sailing. C-USA does sponsor Swimming & Diving though..

FH hasn't won a Nat'l title since 2000 though. Maryland, Wake Forest and North Carolina have won all of them (save 1-Michigan) since 2000..

If field hockey, wrestling, and swimming were to no longer exist, but we got Memphis at the Ted this year, I'd be fine with it. Not advocating it and I am sure they will find a home, but football and basketball are #1 priority.

Agree that football/basketball are #1 priority. I'm just saying that just because they're #1 priority doesn't mean they have to be the ONLY priority..

True, but as long as we are regularly competing for one, I think many would be content with that. Last year was disappointing because they could of won it all, but a Final 4 is a Final 4.

We host the NCAA Field Hockey Final 4 the next two years, the program is not going away (not to mention title IX stuff)

Cut wrestling & field hockey for 1 home date with Memphis that we will assuredly lose? What are you smoking? Give me football, wrestling, & field hockey, and you can keep the rest.
