New baseball head coach Jason Marshall
It seems that the national search for a new head coach wasn't so national. Lynn Hickey just promoted the assistant coach Jason Marshall.

I understand the guy has been with us for a long time, so he knows the system, and players. I assume he can get a head start. I just worry that Lynn promoted him for his loyalty, rather than his skill. His resume isn't that impressive. I guess I was hoping for a high profile hire and some extensive head coach experience.

I don't know much about Jason M. So I won't speculate. I really do hope he has his big girl panties on, so he can lead us in CUSA. Which, as we all know, is chock full of excellent baseball programs.

I just hope he likes all skin colors. Those of you who have played under the old coach know what I mean. Well lets hope for the best. I'm not very optimistic about this hire.

Likes all skin colors? You have to be kidding me, and yeah, I played under Corbett. And will call your BS on that every day of the week. Corbett is a stand up guy, and did a good job, I am not saying we didn't need a new Head coach. He needed to be moved into an administration and get a breath of fresh air into the program and I am glad that Hickey retained him within the department (class act).

Jason Marshal was and IS the right man for the job. He has paid his dues and now gets the opportunity to lead the Roadrunners. For you that wanted a "big name" you don't realize Jason Marshal gave up the opportunity to go and make his name big right away and instead bought his time with this UTSA Program to one day have the opporunity that he has been given and earned.

@ruff15runner, thanks for being here and posting.

I know that assistant coaches do what the boss says to do. The old boss has moved upstairs and Coach Marshall is now the boss.

I'm really curious as to what Coach Marshall will change to take UTSA baseball to the next level? This is an honest question because I have nothing to go on for Coach Marshall other than him being an assistant coach this whole time. There must be something he sees that can dramatically change the program rather quickly, and it must have been seen by Lynn and Coach Corbett as well.

UTSA Baseball has had some amazing wins so I KNOW we have great potential. I'm guessing everyone agrees that Coach Marshall can capitalize on that potential. I simply want to see the bigger picture that they are seeing.

Basically, what is the immediate impact that Coach Marshall brings? (Again, this is an honest question because I don't know Coach Marshall). Also, what does he immediately improve? I know C-USA brings more notoriety for UTSA so recruiting should improve based on that and the past wins UTSA has had.

I believe in Lynn Hickey and I don't think she would end a national search and hire Coach Marshall at this point in our athletic history if she didn't see gold in our UTSA Baseball future with Coach Marshall.

Again, I really want to see what they are seeing and planning so I can be a better fan in the future.

I am not very informed about coach Marshall. But, if you, a former player, say that he is the right person then I feel relieved. All things being equal, at least he can get us out of that rut we've had for a while.

Coach Marshal immediately has the opportunity to strengthen recruiting, IMO Coach Corbett although like I have said a stand up guy, could sometimes come off wrong to young players/parents. You either kind of understood him, or ya didn't. I know Coach Marshal has been hot on the recruiting trail for the last 10 years for UTSA but its different when you take the recruit to meet the head coach and the head coach can make the recruit feel so comfortable and excited about the opportunity to play at UTSA, which is what Coach Marshal will and can do. He is a player's coach, no doubt about it.

Also if you have ever had the opportunity to hear Coach Marshal speak, you will understand what he brings to the table motivationally as well as helping kids see the big picture in their careers. Youtube it; "Coach Marshal Speech" (there are like 6 parts to it) his passion is unmatched and his knowledge of the game is incredible.

And I agree that Hickey wouldn't just settle in this situation, the job she has done across the board in athletics proves to her hiring ability; she understands and sees success in Coach Marshal.

And a lot of what Coach Marshal will have to work with depends on the Athletic Department. Our facility's are beautiful, BUT SUB PAR, when you look at the other teams in the Southland and now the WAC. 6 years ago most of the fields in the Southland looked about the same, not anymore, Texas State has a multi million dollar park and UTSA does not. Which is why I believe UTSA has begun to struggle, its tough to recruit kids who see parks like TX. State and UTA and Lamar and compare it to the facilities UTSA has. The Park West project needs to be kicked into high gear! If we are to compete with the recruiting of the WAC and later CUSA.

I'm pretty sure Gary Patterson was a move up for TCU, so hiring a nationally known coach doesn't always equal on field success.
