Let's slow down re: Griz being sold...
Whoops...

Quote:The Memphis Grizzlies’ sale to Robert J. Pera, announced this past week, is already in serious trouble, according to league sources. Pera owns Ubiquiti Networks, a Silicon Valley communications technology company. When its stock bottomed out in the last two weeks, his net worth plummeted from $1 billion to $200 million, according to league insiders who say that unless he has some wealthy partners lined up to help him finance the sale, it will likely fall through.

Not good when all your wealth is in one stock

Who is this guy?

- The Lakers are committed to moving Pau Gasol — the fall guy for their second-round ouster against the Thunder and previous playoff failures — even if they have to take back less talent. As long as Heisley retains the Grizzlies, Memphis will always have interest. Heisley has always wanted to bring Gasol back, pairing him with his brother, Marc. .

Can't confirm it, but I heard he was getting financial backing from Larry Ellison, who has been very vocal about moving a team he could purchase.

Ellison has the money, he just doesn't want to pay the estimated $600M to buy and move the team. The city of Memphis has a pretty sweet contract with the Grizz that makes it ridiculously expensive, even for a billionaire, to move the team.

Gasol & Gasol down low?!? That would be the best frontcourt in the NBA. Hands down like 6:30. Lakers would prob want Rudy instead of ZBo.

of course ... he openly backs out due to the cost of relocating... then he backs another party with shaky finances so he can be sneaky, sneaky in relocating the team... 03-shhhh

From where?

I heard it from a co-worker in San Jose, he said he heard it at a city luncheon. He also said it involved a new facility being built in San Jose.

I'm not saying it will happen, just telling you what I heard.

Had a feeling this would happen. When most of your wealth is tied to stock, it makes it hard to own an NBA team with all the regulations.

Riiight, because the stock market isn't dictated by the actions of the private sector or anything...

Why this is in Forbes and not all over the city's local rag is amazing...

A group of local businessmen has emerged to buy his Memphis Grizzlies should Robert Pera be forced to drop his $350 million bid for the National Basketball Association team due to the collapse of his company’s stock. The local bid, according to sources familiar with the negotiations, is “a little less than $350 million.”
