In 2006, Big East finished with 3 Teams ranked in the Top 12 in the final coaches poll...but UL and RU fell flat the following year...and Big East finished with just 2 teams ranked in the Top 25 in 2007....and everyone knows how few have finished seasons ranked since then.

It's "what have you done for me lately"...which is why the Big East has been slammed for the lack of top quality teams of late.

Most every other top conf has numerous teams ranked each season...while the Big East does not...and one of the main reasons why having always the smallest bcs conf can and does hurt your image.

Big East is finally changing that by having at least 14 members in 2013...so hopefully multiple Big East teams will always be in the Top 25 in the coming y ear.

And that has basically only been the 2010/2011 seasons.
From 2005 through 2009 the percentage of ranked schools has been in line with the other BCS AQ Leagues.

But you are correct that the size of the league has hurt it and that why if going forward no more defections, real access to the Post AQ Playoff System & a very good Bowl for our #1 the league will be just fine especially if they can land a BYU as #14.

As noted prior...2008 was another disappointing year for the Big East...as just 1 team finished in the Final USA Today Coaches poll...so that's 3 bad years out of the last 4...and 2007 ended up a major disappointment after a great 2006 season...so 4 out of the final 5 have been disappointing conclusions.

Hopefully 2012 and 2013 will start the Big East on a much more consistent basis of having multiple teams in the Top 25...or maybe even Top 10.

What I've learned from this thread... On the field, WVU was the only loss that mattered. And, Boise does well to fill their gap. The other additions are a net add "on the field".

That why I chuckle listening to the talking heads talk about the "preceived" BIG EAST lost of power. On the Football Field with the subtractions/additions it a net gain-(even in TV Viewership) it is on the hardwood with the loss of Syracuse that hurts the BIG EAST.

That why BCS Revenue Distribution is key-(Nick Carparelli/Tom Jurich) have their work cut out for them along with Louisville President Jim Ramsey.

well put..."on the field" the additions are upgrades over the losses for sure. Brand wise, prob not as much but good thing is brand is gained (or lost) over time based upon on field performance so we got that going for us
