Prometheus
Anybody see Prometheus this weekend? Thoughts?
I really enjoyed it. I read going into it that it is not an "alien" movie so I was able to go in and enjoy it for what it was. I find myself thinking about it well after I got home which is rare for a movie these days. Its the kind of movie that you want to talk about afterwards.
Anyone else have any thoughts on it?

RE: Prometheus
It was definitely an alien movie, just not a prequel to the existing movies. It was more like an earlier story from the same cannon. I really enjoyed it and while it definitely laid the groundwork for alien, I feel like it also sets up for more movies in the same canon. Wouldn't be shocked to see a few more movies made that take place between the end of this movie and the beginning of alien.

Yeah, funny, I wasn't really that keen on going to see it originally. Have now heard from several folks about how good it was.

Greg, based on some of the conversations we've had, I think you'll definitely enjoy it.
FWIW for everyone considering seeing it, I saw it in IMAX 3D, which is $17.50 here in Atlanta, but it was totally worth it. Not everyone enjoys 3D movies, I personally love them. I've seen at least a dozen movies in theaters in 3D, and Prometheus was one of the top two or three as far as the use of 3D goes.
It's still pretty early in the year in regards to big movies, but Prometheus has been my 2nd favorite behind only the Avengers. We'll see how it holds up after seeing Moonrise Kingdom, The Amazing Spiderman, The Dark Knight Rises, Gangster Squad(despite the stupid title), Killing Them Softly, The Master, Skyfall, Hyde Park on Hudson, The Hobbit, Lincoln, This is 40, Django Unchained, and The Great Gatsby.

Thanks Zac, I too love 3D films. I'll make sure to see it that way.

RE: Prometheus
SPOILERS- KIND OF
I very much enjoyed this movie. It set a good tone from the beginning and carried it flawlessly throughout the movie.
The only negatives I found were involving the characters and, oddly enough, the pace of the movie.
If you go back and watch the first two Alien flicks you'll notice immediately how they set themselves apart from other movies.
Hell, most of the beginning is simply silence while the camera landscapes some area. I call it the Scott feel in this essence. While you could certainly tell this was a Ridley Scott movie it seems as if he has slid more towards mainstream. The beginning of this movie was very non-Ridley Scott.
I also thought a few of the characters bit it too subtly. Some without enough characterization, such as Mr. Weyland's daughter.
Overall, I feel this movie was an excellent movie, a great piece of the Alien universe, and an emotional ride from start to end. That being said, I miss how movies were made back in the day. This movie on a few occasions approaches the border of "typical reaction" and it throws you off for a minute or two.
