SMU FB season ticket sales ...
I bought SMU season tickets today. When I spoke with the rep over the phone, he said they have 1,300+ new season ticket customers this year (as of today). I believe they started selling tickets in early May and there's still three full months before the first home game.
I don't remember how many season tickets SMU sells, but I think an estimate of 7,500 to 10,000 wouldn't be far off. If they can increase that by about 3,000 this year, that's a pretty good increase on a percentage basis. And this is still with zero marketing of the FB program locally (hopefully that will begin by next spring/summer).
I'm not sure how much of the increase is due to the anticipation of joining the Big East. SMU is coming off a good bowl win and the home schedule is relatively strong this year with Texas A&M and TCU, plus the C-USA schedule of Houston, Memphis, Southern Miss, and Tulsa.

That's great news. I think there's a lot of excitement with us new teams coming. SMU deserves to be back on top again and it'll be better for the conference when they are.

Most are A&M and TCU fans making sure they get seats

RE: SMU FB season ticket sales ...
I am anxious to see where the Aztecs season tickets are this season.
We were up last year, so there should be a small increase again this season after a 8-5 season.
I don't think it will be a big increase, as most think we will be rebuilding a little this season.
Hopefully we start fast and the base grows again.
Many cities are bandwagon cities (especially in California)...San Diego may be the ultimate bandwagon city.
In other words, if the Aztecs can continue to rise, the support will be pheominal (see Aztec Basketball).

It still counts. Besides, they got Stubhub in Dallas.

That's where supply/demand, especially with a small stadium (32,000) can help...as A&M and TCU fans that buy season tix help SMU's attendance for other home games (i.e. paid attendance)...even if those tix never get used.
SMU probably has their best home schedule in years....as SMU hosts:
TCU
TEXAS A&M
HOUSTON
TULSA
SOUTHERN MISS
STEPHEN A AUSTIN
SMU hosting the Top favorites to win CUSA West (Houston & Tulsa), plus 2011 CUSA Champ Southern Miss...let alone the home games vs TCU and A&M...SMU should smash their attendance figures dating back to when they restarted their program back up during late 80's.

Good luck Ponies.

We also get Memphis at home - 7 games. Come on over Tigers and get some real BBQ!

Only 2 sellouts of the season and most people will be there to see the away team.

SMU drew 19K for Tulsa in 2010, and 20K for Houston. Those games should see a bump. I'll be very impressed if they sell out.
TCU and A&M should sell out, although SMU only drew 27K in an opener against Texas Tech in 2007, so it's not a given.

TCU at SMU in 2010 drew 35,481 ... standing room only. Not bad for two small private schools.
The ponies can get good crowds with good football.

Now that we are focused on being competitive, I like playing TCU away.

I would expect much better for Houston this year. The 2010 game was played in a monsoon.

Was that the game with a 2.5 or 3 hour rain delay?

1. I hope you are right. I plan to be there.
2. Like most schools, SMU counts tickets sold, not butts in seats. I doubt the 2010 Houston ANNOUNCED attendance was altered much by the weather.
