OT: Music torrent
Hey, my usual music torrent downloader isn't working. Anyone know any good ones? I was using PirateBay and KickassTorrents. Anyone know any like those?

FWIW I buy CD's. I only buy them from independent record stores or directly from the artist.

Sorry, I've stayed away since Oink got shut down by Interpol and all their IPs confiscated.

Most of the good ones like megaupload were shut down. Try media fire or rapidshare...

I just downloaded that new Goyte album no problem. Just click the icon under the big green download button that says get this torrent with a magnet icon next to it. I highly recommend using btgaurd to run your IP through a proxy. The copyright laws in the United States are a joke.

Yeah I know what button to use, but instead of getting music files to pop up in my download window its document files.

Also should I pay for btguard or get a free one?

Those who run the sites are thrown in jail. I don't even think they fine folks anymore. Google news search for it, I can't find a single article in the last three years about someone being fined. I haven't tried going beyond 2009.

Edit: I found a guy who was caught in 2004 and in 2009 fined.

In December 2008 the RIAA announced it would stop going after individual downloaders.

Quote:June 18, 2009|By Elianne Friend CNN:

a federal jury Thursday found a 32-year-old Minnesota woman guilty of illegally downloading music from the Internet and fined her $80,000 each -- a total of $1.9 million -- for 24 songs.

Jammie Thomas-Rasset's case was the first such copyright infringement case to go to trial in the United States, her attorney said.

Attorney Joe Sibley said that his client was shocked at the fine, noting that the price tag on the songs she downloaded was 99 cents.

RE: OT: Music torrent
Eh, I just search for whole albums on YouTube and listen to them. If I like them, I then find a way to legally buy said albums so I can own them. Next album I get will definitely be Dream Theater's A Dramatic Turn of Events. (I've borrowed it from a few friends and it's just freaking incredible! Granted, it's not as good as Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence, Octavarium, Images and Words, or Metropolis Part 2: Scenes From a Memory, but it's pretty darn good.)

That court case was for an incident prior to the RIAA announcing in Dec 2008 that they would stop pursuing individual downloaders.

RE: OT: Music torrent
Use Frostwire for ALL your file sharing needs. It is the old Limewire build, but doesn't use the Gnutella network. You can still search individual songs, but it also handles any torrent oe other download from any site. Basically, it just searches all the download sites in the program itself. Also, you can terminate uploading, which decreases your bandwidth...

I strongly recommend it; simply the best. Truly one stop shopping.

http://www.frostwire.com

Also, I recommend downloading peer block. It prevents you from connecting to ip's that are hunting for piracy... It makes you anynomous, and now blocks over a billion suspicious IP addresses.... For what it's worth, I'd never download without some form of blocker - too risky...

http://www.peerblock.com

If you use both these programs in conjunction, you won't need to worry about copyright infringement complaints, charges etc. from all the knucle-draggers - if you anti-piracy guys want to pay for other people's 3rd mansions and beach homes, then more power to you...

Take it from me, you won't disappointed.... Oh and btw, both programs are 100% free. Anyone who pays for ANY computer software is overpaying....

Usenet

Oh and if you are getting "document" file types(.doc, .docx, .wps, .txt?????), you have a file type association problem not a "torrent" problem.
