This is not how final recruiting rankings are going to look like. Some teams are ranked high simply because they have more recruits and that does not take into consideration the quality of the recruit. For instance SMU # 37 has on average 2.44 stars per recruit. Houston #49 has 2.8 stars per recruit.

I never implied they would stay this way. Of course they're not. It's still an interesting look. Plus anytime UCF is ranked 30 spots ahead of USF is a reason for celebration.

Well, at least we're recruiting a lot better than we're ranked. Baby steps.

Not a big fan of the Star rankings. All of the guys from UC who make NFL teams probably average 0-2 stars.

Same thing is happening at SMU, 2* guys getting drafted to NFL (we had 4 this year plus three FAs). But still wouldn't mind picking up a couple of 4*s.

RE: Rivals c/o '13 Football Recruiting Ranks; Current Former Future and Potential teams
For the most part, star rankings are pretty much worthless. UCONN has been sending players to the NFL yearly with horrible ranked classes. This year's 4 recruits we got so far are all 3 stars, but it really does not mean a thing until they are on the field. Maybe Rivals is giving coach P more respect but I doubt it.

Take RU or Pitt vs. UCONN for example, both Pitt and RU have classes ranked way higher than UCONN yearly. On the field, it is a different matter. Games against RU has been either tight or a total blow out in UCONN's favor like this last season. UCONN has beat Pitt plenty of times head to head. I would say top 10 classes mean something. Outside top 10, it really is a crap shoot.

Ranking recruiting classes in June - 8 months before signing day - is a bit silly to me. I'm glad UCF is off to such a strong start, but by no means should we be kicking sand on those below at this juncture. After all, one 5-star on any team below yours could push your team down. And who says these commits stick it out?

RE: Rivals c/o '13 Football Recruiting Ranks; Current Former Future and Potential teams
For some fans....they would rather win the recruiting ranking wars on signing day....vs said players actually enrolling in their Universities later on that summer.

Some fans look for any and all reasons to brag...and recruiting rankings in FEB is just another time for those rankings.

One person asked: "Why don't the recruiting services just rank the recruiting classes of those actual recruits that end up ENROLLING later on that summer?"

Easy...because the $$$$ are made in the months leading up to Feb...as its almost a 2nd thought as to the actual kids that end up hitting the practice field that August.

FSU rivals.com publishers use to help to pump up their rankings even when a kid would ENROLL in a JUCO in January (wasn't eligible for Div I-A rankings) but the rivals publisher would put said player in FSU's recruiting class to help artificially pump up their rankings...all because it lead to more subscribers (pump out good news, more people usually end up subscribing).

Getting verbals is just the first step.

Getting verbals to sign is the 2nd step.

Getting signed recruits to enroll is the 3rd step.

Getting enrolled recruits to end up playing in games is the 4th step.

Recruiting is generally a 2-3 year process for most (except say JUCO's or some transfers that are expected to start in Year 1 at their new school) but even at top schools like FSU, UF, Georgia, etc....almost 40% of those top ranked classes end up flaming out (never coming close to their potential).

If things go right Louisville will have a top 15 class in 2014. I know its a ways off but our recruiting has improved leaps and bounds and thats without having a really great season...YET. If we become a consistant 10 win team then the 4-5 star recruits will pour in, all thanks to Charlie Strong and the rest of the coaching staff.

Temple doesn't get commitments until our camps. Usually, at least 90% of our commits are from our camps. In some cases, we will not offer a recruit unless they camp to show interest. You will see days this summer where we pick up 5+ commitments.

ND is ranked #8 in recruiting right now. Brian Kelly and staff are doing a good job on the recruiting trail.

They just beat out Ohio State and Alabama for 5 star OLB Jaylon Smith.

We never have highly rated recruiting classes yet always find our way into the actual rankings.

Boise, you give me hope! Our fans are moaning about lack of stars/offers for our 11 commits, so hope we can accomplish what you do.
