Owens hasnt played baseball since freshman year of high school and was just as shocked as us when the Padres called him. This will be irrelevant until after he graduates and if no nfl scouts are giving him looks

Left-handed and good football arm. Yeah, it's a surprise as they could have easily signed him as an undrafted free agent, but maybe there weren't many players on their list at that point in the draft so they figured they would pull the trigger.

One other thing is that most college pitchers have had some arm trouble by the time they get to the pros, so Owens may have the double advantage of no bad habits to undo and a healthy arm.

By the time you get to the 40th round, the draft is a complete crapshoot with long odds.

This pick is more about going after a longshot that could payoff. The alternative would be to draft a college kid who is literally a dime a dozen and a similar longshot. Why do that when you can sign multitudes of them as free agents who go undrafted?

We at least KNOW that KNEW is spelled with a K..as do most 3rd graders. Owens Tech students who follow BUGS...not so much.

I would have loved that too, but Roger was no small guy, and he was jacked up on roids, and he was such a meathead. I picture him as the kind of guy who can take a hammer to the skull and he wouldn't even know his brain was bleeding.

Owens is unstoppable. How many teams can say their starting QB was drafted in the MLB draft? Name me one.

Owens is very good, I'm not taking anything away from him. However your comment that he us unstoppable is a little ridiculous.

College football has plenty of QB's that got drafted by MLB. Without doing a search, I can think of two that just graduated, Russell Wilson and Brandon Weeden.

Off the top of my head I can name 2:

1. Tennessee and Todd Helton (was starter until he lost his job to some guy named Manning)

2. NC State/Wisconsin and Russell Wilson (starting QB at TWO BCS programs)
