01-lauramac2 You did not read it all. It has been up-dated to include all of 2011's earnings. Dude 2012 are included because 2012 still has six more months of earnings to be made. So it is current for the year ending 2011. 03-phew

This list is pointless for any teams outside the major conferences.

I do have a question for you Louisville fans: Does Louisville lease the YUM Center or does the city?

Louisville does and no other college can play an event in the Yum center without Louisville's consent as we are the primary tenant. 04-cheers

These numbers are misleading but doesn't take away from the fact that UL is the only school in the big east that makes more money from bball than they do football.

That's a good gig. Memphis is like that to a extent. We share with the Grizzlies, but no other college team can play there without our consent. If I'm not mistaken, Tennessee and Arkansas wanted to play each other there, but we said no.

Louisville and Memphis are the kings of New Big East in basketball attendance and facilities. 04-cheers

Louisville, Memphis, Temple, UConn, Georgetown, Marquette and Villanova will be the standard bearers of New Big East Basketball. 07-coffee3

For as much chest beating as UL does about how much money they make I've got to say I'm not overly impressed. You guys are doing well but you make less than UK and schools like WVU, Ole Miss and Minnesota are right behind you even with your brand new facilities.

I agree and I can't wait to 03-nutkick Louisville! I was able to go to Freedom Hall and Papa Johns, but I hear YUM is awesome!

Freedom Hall was great too......all the history. I always have fun Louisville fans.04-cheers

I assume they have higher payouts then UL.

Actually Louisville has first right of refusal on all events. Louisville also collects 88% of all income generated by luxury suites at all events held at Yum Center. We also receive all parking and all concession revenue for all events. All the money that was generated from concession and parking for the recent NCAA tournament went to UofL. A sweet deal for the UofL. The Yum Center is actually struggling to pay its bills because of the contract it negotiated with UofL. Yum Center officials have asked UofL to consider re-negotiating the deal. We basically screwed the city to keep an NBA team out.

Poorly misinformed.
Louisville made more money than UK this year. WVU wasn't even close. Like it or not, we print money in Louisville. Think NBA revenue from an NBA facility, NBA style seat licensing and NBA corporate base. UofL is Louisville's professional team. No matter what conference we are in we'll make money.

Good for you guys. If I were UL I would do everything I possibly could to keep the NBA out, you guys need to be the only show in town when it comes to bball.

Ok then what the hell is that link to? I understand you guys brought in 86million or whatever but that was not pure profit. That link seems to be how much you guys actually came away with. It's not a bad number by any means.

Cincy beat all of the big east teams you mentioned, and Georgetown twice.
If you think we are going to fall into oblivion don't bet on it. St. Johns will get better also.

Some additional info:

Mark Story - Hearld Leader

Business First

"U of L's sports budget ranked No. 14 among all schools, and UK was No. 17."

"On the revenue side, U of L ranked No. 16 among all schools with $87.7 million generated from athletics, while UK was No. 19 with $84.9 million."

Better get used to it. Until others in the conference catch up, on the field and at the cash register, it's Notre Dame, Louisville, UConn and everyone else.

BTW that would not change if Louisville was in The PAC, ACC or Big 12. We already make more money than anyone in The PAC or ACC and would be third in The Big 12 behind only Texas and Oklahoma.
