OT: US News Top 20 National "Up-and-Coming Universities"
Two Big East Schools make US News Top 20 List!

Top 20 Up-and-Coming Schools National Universities
http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreview...and-coming

For UCF, their #4 ranking is their highest ever...as UCF is one of the few schools that have been ranked in the Top 10 in all 4 years of this poll.

That list always confounds me. How are really old and prominent schools like Tulane and Ohio State "up and comers"?

To many elitist in academia (especially those from the Northeast), if your Univ wasn't founded in the 1700's or early 1800's...then your school is NEW to them.

Looking at some Big East schools, Rutgers is OLDER than the USA, as that Univ was founded back in 1766.

Univ of Pittsburgh was founded in 1787

Georgetown was founded in 1789.

Univ of Louisville was founded in 1798.

Cinci was founded in 1819.

Notre Dame was founded in 1842. (Newbie!)

The fact that USF and UCF are both in the Top 10 of this poll, despite the relative youth of the two universities and non-stop gutting of the higher ed budget by our 'esteemed' Governor is even more impressive.

Imagine if the schools received anywhere close to national average in terms of support....

SMU should get bonus points for having In-n-Out Burger next to campus.

#58 The University of Connecticut (and we did it without an In-and-Out franchise)

Founded 1881, a newbie by Northeastern standards. Until about 1900, the people of Connecticut thought Yale was Connecticut's state university. Then they woke up and noticed Yale was a private school.

Governor Scott didn't gut the universities. His budget called for level spending. It was the Legislature that slaughtered the universities.

That's just because they stopped giving out bumper stickers reading "In and Out Burger" that college students used to modify to read "In and Out Urge."

He signed off on the budget and created another university that was pushed through without any justification or due process that splits the meager funds to higher Ed even thinner for all of us. The guy is a moron. Sorry.

It was the same throughout New England .... the people of Massachusetts thought of Harvard as "their" school. Ditto Rhode Island and Brown, New Hampshire and Dartmouth, etc.

I guess everything changed when the Ivy League schools started to admit more elite students from all over the U.S., and some good (local) students were being denied admission. Then the people realized there was a need for a state university.

Actually, USF's own president and their board PUSHED for USF's extended Poly Campus to be built in Lakeland for YEARS..even though it of course was not needed...as USF President made sure that campus site had a HUGE "USF BULLS COUNTRY" Billboard on it for the past 2 years....BRAGGING about their upcoming extended campus in Lakeland.

Only when that campus project was being pulled out from under USF, did many of USF President Judy's supporters (like Cyber) throw a hissy hit.

$34 Million for a new extended poly campus for USF? GREAT IDEA!

$34 Million for a new poly campus NOT named USF? TERRIBLE IDEA!

None of those state schools seem too late except URI. Most were probably established with the morrill land-grant act.

Edit: UVM was private until the Morrill Act.
