RE: Potential Good News For the Big East
I'm a bit confused. Doesn't NBC already have a 24h channel, converted from OLN or Versus or something like that? On my digital cable we have 'NBC Sports'. There are also quite a bit of other all sports channels on cable. So does ESPN already have several 'smaller' competitors, or is there something different about all these channels?

Either way, clearly FOX would be a very welcome addition.

Yes...no clue how the writer missed that...as FOX looks to be trying to copy exactly what NBC just did.

On Jan 1, 2012, NBC rebranded/relaunched Versus into "NBC Sports Network", which was already available in 79.3 Million Homes.

NBC is pouring a TON of $$$ into NBC Sports Network...built them a new HQ, new studios, etc...and is throwing $$$$ trying to see new live sporting events...which is one of the main reason why NBC will be bidding on the Big East Package.

FOX is just trying to copy what NBC did...as FOX realizes it has little shot at securing Big East TV rights if they do not have a dedicated national sports channel.

SPEED Channel is already in 78 million homes...and on most days...has very low ratings (cheap programming, almost all of it is recorded) which is why FOX is looking at rebranding that as their new FOX SPORTS National Station.

FOX Sports 2 dozen plus regional affiliates are almost exclusively tied to local TV deals with their regional pro sports teams...and would have limited availability for national programming.

Actually, they are kinda copying one another. I know NBC is building a regional studio here in Houston. That tends to suggest that the intention is to also get into the regional networks similar to the Fox set up. I could see Fox and NBC ending up with relatively similar set ups.

NBC already owns about a dozen regional sports networks thru Comcast.
