There's your discrepancy.

But it isn't an inaccurate statement that they want it legal though, but I would wager that the results would be different if they had an option for 'legal under extenuating circumstances rape/incest/health/etc'.

But for the record, most of the people I've had this discussion with around my age/demographic are pro-life personally, but think that the government shouldn't be able to force a woman to carry a child, so they want abortion legal. It seems inconsitent at first glance, but it's really not and instead it's more of a problem with the two camps trying to fit all of us into either Pro-Choice or Pro-Life (the names themselves show the utter lunancy that infests both sides).

It depends on their understanding. I think there are a number of liberals who are "pro-life" if you define that as someone who desires there to be fewer abortions. If, however, pro-life sentiments are based upon the conviction that a fetus is a human being deserving certain rights, it is inconsistent to say that you believe the fetus is a person worthy of rights, but you wish it to remain legal that those persons may be terminated for convenience.

RE: Latest Poll RE: Abortion
For the sake of this discussion, here's how I'm interpreting the Pro life/choice alignments:

Pro-Life: All abortion should be illegal
Pro-Choice: Abortion should be a legal option

EDIT:

... or another way to put it is to say that 1/2 of pro-life respondents are really pro-choice but dislike the term.

It's possible the disconnect represents the difference between people who have a personal objection but don't believe the government should regulate it.

Bingo most people I know are pro-choice but half of them would never have an abortion themselves. They would even discourage a family member or close friend from having one.

This.

I think a lot of this centers around the issue that a disproportionately loud minority of the pro-life group does come out and say they think all abortion should be illegal, period, regardless of incest/rape/medical issues/etc. I think that scares a lot of people away from taking a pro-life stance, even if they would support regulations based on that.

And again, I think we can't discount people who are pro-life, but don't feel that the government should have the ability to force any woman to carry a baby, which is what legislating abortion requirements inherently involves.

I know of nobody who has ever said if the mothers life is in danger that an Abortion should be illegal..

No one ever forced a woman to carry a baby. She chose to when she had sex.

Well medical issues isn't limited only to the mothers health, it also includes the health of the child. Still, this is regardless as the first two listed are enough to scare a significant amount of those who are between the two official stances away from being 'pro-life'. At least, IMO.
