RE: Top 10 reasons why this board is officially dead
If this board is dead then there are going to many more who'll be reading its obituary on a daily, weekly, monthly and yearly basis in the near future looking at the numbers below.
From a poster on GMG.com
"CUSA will add approximately 2.8 million sets with the changes in membership. I did read somewhere that the Fox contract was $46 million for five years which might account for the difference that you noted.
Usually contracts are renegotiated when there are major changes to the structure of the original contract. In this case I believe that the difference in the number and makeup of the conference warrants rethinking. The losses of Orlando and Memphis are more than offset by the additions of Miami, Charlotte, San Antonio and Norfolk. That's a lot of advertising dollars for the networks."
PS: CUSA also added approx. 160,000 more DFW Metroplex TV sets tied directly to a CUSA member school if you count the difference in DFW's SMU and UNT alumnus numbers. 160,000 is hardly pocket change and I'm not even counting UNT's enrollment which will be about 37,000 this Fall. I don't know of any other single Texas-based university in the DFW Metroplex whose alumnus numbers are even close to UNT's collective constituency numbers and that includes UT with their Texas Exes and Texas A & M with their Former Students (the Aggies never call their grads alumnus but rather.....former students).
Bottom line is we all hope all the additional constituencies numbers will mean more annual TV revenues for each CUSA member.
RE: Top 10 reasons why this board is officially dead
I like the spirit of North Texas fans, and hope we get an opportunity soon in the East-West divisional matchups to meet on the field. Both of our fanbases have embraced this move, and both expect big things from our teams.

See? This is just sad, man. I'm going to guess you are part of the "self-esteem at all costs" kids that are just reaching college and beyond. When your teacher said it was trying that counts...she was lying. I'd much rather be hardcore offended by a troll than to have one suck so bad that I start to feel a tiny bit of pity. If you're coming, you've got to bring it. Otherwise don't bother.

RE: Top 10 reasons why this board is officially dead
I think you should rephrase #2. It's not the fact that we'll never be mentioned in realignment discussions that drives USM fans away (from this board as well as from USM athletics in general), it's the fact that nothing our school does on or off the field will ever matter.
Why go to the effort to whip somebody's ass if everyone is still going to think the victim of the ass-whipping is superior? It's easier to just dispense with the ass-whipping altogether and skip to the part where people look down on us. Memphis and Louisville sure do, despite the fact that we're the superior institution overall. And if Gen. Hammond is to be believed, we'd save money that way.
There is a small but growing movement for USM to deemphasize athletics as a result. Their are hidden costs associated with running athletics that are now being scrutinized for the first time.
