Pretty cool. I guess the punters just use the kicking nets when practice is under the roof?

This is the area of the park that sells alcohol and has cornhole. It can get pretty full for night games. I just wish we had more of them.

Construction is under way.

Conference USA Facilities
There are just two video walls now and the other two will be put in at the end of the season before the Alamo Bowl and certainly before the Final Four at end of March. They are 36 ft video walls. If you want to check it out go here..

I attended the FINAL FOUR in the Alamo Dome in 1998. (Kentucky, NC, Utah & Stanford). While I agree that San Antonio is a great "entertainment" town to hold a large event like that, I personally didn't like watching basketball in that dome. I hope the City of SA can keep that dome refreshed and updated, and not let it fall into disrepair.

Congrats. It always feels good seeing programs investing in facilities.

It's not ours and it's not on-campus, but that's the best stadium in the conference. That's a $300 million dollar facility (in 2017 dollars) that just received another $60 mill in renovations and we are the primary tenant. I laugh when other members look down on it as if it isn't by far the most expensive stadium that hosts the biggest events out of all the other conference stadiums.

You shouldn't be laughing at anyone. You don't really know what you are missing when you don't have an on-campus football stadium. The benefits are immeasurable. I doubt anyone on this board would trade their on campus stadium for your lease on the Alamodome.

Re-read what I said. I concede that it's not on-campus or owned by UTSA, therefore we don't enjoy the benefits that come with that. But at the same time it's not too shabby of an alternative. I laugh at people that act like the Dome is some run down dump when it's easily the best facility in the conference. We are the primary tenant unlike other FBS programs (USF, Temple, Memphis, etc) that don't play on-campus and its become more UTSA centric after these renovations. I'll take it until we gather the resources to build on-campus.

If Memphis isn't the primary tenant at the Liberty Bowl, who is?

You are right. Alamodome > Libert Bowl though tbf.

Advantage UTSA. No doubt. I agree that the Alamodome is a great off campus facility. It will be a great home for the CUSA West Runner-Up. 05-mafia

RE: Conference USA Facilities
The Alamodome is far from great as a college or any other kind of sports venue. There is little parking, you can break a leg trying to walk around it, it has the acoustics of a tin can. Hopefully that renovation will repair all the obviously dangerous outside walkways and significantly improve the appearance of the stadium.

I think it serves UTSA purposes, it provides a great home field advantage and has plenty of capacity. It obviously takes the weather out of the game. I just argue with the thought it is a great facility just because it is a large dome.
The problem with large capacity stadiums is they are a turnoff with small crowds.
