If somebody calls me and has the wrong number I guess technically I talked to them. This story doesn't mean jack.

Our boy Chuck Landon said the following on Twitter:

"The only person in CUSA lobbying for Appy is Terry Holland at ECU ... Nobody else is interested"

Hope he's right.
We gave Holland 2 schools...2 that the rest of the league is good with.

To show how much Chucky boy knows, Terry Holland is our AD, Unversity Presidents vote on new members, not ADs. The last time Ap State was mentioned by TH was months ago. Landon is a little behind. Terry was pushing for eastern schools like UNC-C, Ap. State, ODU, etc. for better travel, he got UNC-C and could get ODU. TH is happy now.

But he was pushing for essentially a large division of schools in his remarks c. a year go, not just a couple.
Everyone should be happy. Those were the two best choices to address ECU's (very legitimate) concerns.

For a FACT, if appy state was invited is when UTEP starts breaking its piggy bank to exit cusa. ODU, Charlotte we can live with but to have to take a 2/3 hour bus ride from an airport is a, ahem, little too much. As much as I'm against Enemas U. they still would be a GIANT step ahead of appy state, as least we'd be getting bkb points from ncaa tourneys from them. Say NO to appy state.

This is the larger point I was making, there have been a few public "bones" thrown Appy's way, but not recently. From what I've heard is that TH and SB had a list of schools they would like (note: not that they wanted all of them) and put that list to them C-USA Prez. Those schools were looked at and narrowed down and then UNC-C and ODU were voted to receive invits. IE, Chucky boy is a a few days late and more than few dollars short.

I have to agree with everything you said. If we are leaving to the MWC then OK invite whoever into C-USA, but if we are staying then App St. would be a terrible addition for us.

Maybe it's just me, but I think Appalachian would do well in the MAC.

I agree with both of you guys as well, it would be a terrible move all around by C-USA.

I'll post this again, why would CUSA go after someone (App St) the SunBelt isn't inviting?

RE: App St is only in talks with CUSA???
MTSU and Georgia (State or Southern) add states we don't have in our footprint as of 2013. Ohio school(s) would be ok but they are saturated and recruiting is just as saturated. No added benefit other than being established. North Carolina has two schools now. I'd rather see ODU, MTSU, and a Georgia school before another NC school or a MAC school. That's three more recruiting footholds, untapped media markets for CUSA, and likely good football based on what they've done at the FCS level.

People here also assume that the FCS schools can't contribute right away.
I know most of you know our history. First year back in 1-A (FBS) was 1997. Gave Ole Miss all they could handle in a bowl. '98 beat South Carolina and Louisville in a bowl. '99 beat Clemson creamed BYU in a bowl. '00 gave UNC all they wanted (they shut the lights out to kill our momentum) beat Cincy in a bowl. '01 beat ECU in a bowl. That was out first 5 years back. Don't be shocked if one or more of these schools with more scholarships available and better recruiting due to conference affiliation don't jump up and bite a few teams that thought they would roll over for them. We listened to all the MAC fans tell us we couldn't compete at their level. We then dominated that league for 5 of the 7 years we were there. And still had winning seasons the other two.

I know what can happen. I don't discount any team regardless of general perception till the scoreboard says time is out and we have more points.

As much as I'd love to have App in the CUSA for rivalry purposes, I think overall they would be a bad fit.
No TV market, poor other sports besides football, already in a over saturated football state.
Go for ODU.

Even if there was airport next to Appy, Boone does not have the infrastructure to be a good IA program.

That's not really it. We've got 2 NC teams. That state has 6 FBS teams. Enough. And if we take a team on the come so to speak, they need to bring some revenue (usually via market).

App. State is merely smack board fodder for those bored with the more realistic scenarios.
