You think he wants to sit back and let the Big 12 invade Florida without a fight? Slive might go to the SEC presidents and say, look guys, if FSU is going to leave the ACC, then we ought to bring FSU into the SEC rather than letting the Big 12 encroach on our turf.

There is no chance that the Big 12 would invite ACC teams unless FSU is one of them, so the SEC can block the B12 just by inviting FSU. The scheduling gurus at SEC HQ might want to dust off those proposed football schedules for a 16-team league.

I disagree with that. There are about 12 ACC schools that would be more attractive to networks than their next best option (Louisville). If the Big 12 couldn't get FSU but could get 2 others they'd pursue them.

I don't think so, because it's not just a matter of being more valuable to TV than Louisville.

You can eliminate more than half the ACC just because the Big 12 wouldn't stretch that far, or the schools would never join a conference on the Great Plains, or would never leave the ACC unless it disintegrated first, or the Big 12 wouldn't be interested, or some combination of those -- IMO that eliminates BC, Syracuse, UMd, UVa, and all four NC schools at least.

You'd know more about VT internal politics but I can't see VT taking the political hit of separating from UVa unless it was for the SEC.

GT might be close to that category of never leaving the ACC until it disintegrated first.

So that's why the Big 12 will hold at 10 for now unless they can land FSU.

Excerpt:

“All I tried to say was I think Florida State needs to keep an open mind,” Haggard said Sunday morning. “If the Big 12 or the SEC or any other conference wants to talk, we have an obligation to listen. If the Big 12 calls, should we hang up the phone? No.

I’m not saying take it. I’m saying listen to it. Listen to what they have to say.”

Haggard also said he would back down from his comments regarding FSU’s Tier 3 rights in the recently signed television contract between the ACC and ESPN “if I spoke on poor information.”

RE: FSU Board Chairman backs off his comments
I still say nothing has changed at FSU. If you have followed this at all, they have been unhappy for months. There have been rumors of FSU/Clemson to the B12 for months. It's all the same as it was. The BOT chair got all hot and bothered about an issue that was bogus. He backed down from his comments.

Now, the one thing that might happen is he got so many folks stirred up that they'll pressure the admin to chase this harder. Still takes two to tango, and nobody knows what's up with the B12. They might take them, but it's not a slam dunk, any time Texas is involved.

Frankly, I'm not that hard over either way about what happens. It is what it is. I just think to start forming hard opinions, that it's going down one way or the other, is jumping the gun a little.

We'd add at least six other schools from the ACC if FSU wasn't coming. The idea that FSU going to the SEC makes it not worth our while is laughable.
