It's like you think Charlotte and ECU have never been in the same conference before.

Here's to Marshall hopefully doing the same in the rest of the sports.
Gotta give it at least a full recruiting cycle before we see what Charlotte football can really do.

Awesome... you're in a big city and that's all you have.
I think App has a nice football program, heck I even like going up to Boone/Blowing Rock for an occasional day trip. As you think about adding them to the conference though consider that although they are in the middle of nowhere they do not operate in a vacuum. Their recruiting is going to be significantly impacted by Charlotte starting football and they will not be the same App in two years that they have been for the last seven. This is why they suddenly hate Charlotte so much. They never cared before when we spanked them in basketball because App fans all pull for ACC teams in everything but football. Now we are a threat, and if you don't believe me just go read their message board.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but you're no threat.
Is that your opinion or are you actually basing it on something? I will quickly admit that App has a better football program than our non-existant one, but in February we signed players App was recruiting, and we are already seeing some transfers. All of this two seasons before we play and with no conference affiliation. We are not going to be signing players that got offers from Ohio State or Florida, so where do you think our players will come from? Soon there are going to be 85 kids on our team that were in the same recruiting pool for App.
What gets me is that UNCC and UTSA think that recruiting is all you need to be competitive. There are so many variables in play that it's mind numbing. In order to be successful you have to have so many things fall into place at the right time. Hell a bad coaching hire can bury a program for a decade, great recruits that aren't coachable can ruin a season, there are just too many variables to list. Hell if being successful in FBS was as simple as recruiting we'd all be in the top 10.

Recruiting is great and all, but I guarantee you that every fan on this board will agree that hard work and dedication (meaning great coaching and coachable athletes) will beat raw talent everytime. UNCC is going to get the rejects just like the rest of us, so don't kid yourself.

I am sure you are correct, but what are we to do? We are building a nice stadium with brand-new training facilities.* We have hired a coaching staff from BCS schools. We are a fast-growing school in a major city. Our athletic program in general is successful. We have joined a good conference. I am not sure that we can do much more to set the program up for success. Now we just need to let time take its course.
* (Side note: Every 49ers team has been given a new home in the past 18 years. We are committed to being competitive.)

For the Same reason you are. You are mad because we didn't earn it and we got in because of our market. Look, I really do get it. BUT eventually that will fade and we will become competitive within the conference.
The funny thing is that you are now trying to speak for ECU fans. The same fans who just two days ago were worried because we won't have the 5000+ seats for all their fans.
Quote:They are two schools in the same state in the same conference... once again proving my point that FORCED rivalries do not work, it also proves my point about market share.
I don't know how you think that proves your point. All that proves is that private and public schools have nothing in common. You know ~6% of their students are international? HALF out of state. Who has a fierce rivalry with some guy from India? Ohio? Meanwhile Houston is a large public institution with a much higher in state population.
My neighbors, friends, and family are alumni of Charlotte, ECU, and App. You know why? Because the common student stays in state and attends a much public university. I'm not sure how you can even attempt to say that those are one in the same.
And if you could, try to respond to my posts with one post rather than multiple. It makes the hardest part of proving you wrong finding your posts to refute and disprove.

Well, we did happen to pull a coach out from Marshall (Phil Ratliff) for what is basically a parralel postion at our program, and that was when we were still projected to be a long term FCS program. Obviously some coaches think just UNC Charlotte and our tiny, yet-to-play-a-down, football program has other values besides just a market.
I don't think any Niner fan thinks we're going to pull lots of recruits from BCS programs.
Do you just feel like arguing today?

Money helps a lot too.
Look at Oklahoma State and Oregon, those programs are turning into powers just because rich people like to pump money into it.
Its gonna be a tough road for us, since we aren't in a BCS level conference, we need a good coaching staff (which I think we have) and a lot of luck. Its going to fun though.

Not sure I understand where some of you are going with this issue.
Bottom line...App St sports were Southern Conference...Charlotte sports were A-10. A-10 much greater than Southern Conference every day of the week. Charlotte was also a 10 year member of CUSA. App should have never expected to get in CUSA over Charlotte. I don't care how many FCS football games they won. Charlotte football will be D-1 essentially from Day 1, a couple year transition is all, similar to USF.
I am interested to see how many Marshall fans make it to Charlotte games, I'm thinking quite a few. Charlotte looks to be in a good position to have opposing teams travel to them, ECU could probably fill their stadium, ODU has a nice travel base and then Marshall. It will also be interesting to see who Charlotte can get at home OOC. Will any ACC school travel to Charlotte? Maybe for recruiting purposes.

Make no mistake about it, there will be tons of Marshall fans in Charlotte. Not only the ones that will travel from West Virginia but all the once that actually live in Charlotte or Raleigh. We have a huge alumni base in Charlotte. So much that our annual coaches tour always stops in Charlotte.

I recommend all you CUSA fans research the Charlotte recruiting class referenced in this post. What you will find is that out of 22 or so recruits, only 4-5 had offers from another D1 school. And most of those were Coastal Carolina. Dont step in the BS.
And those Rivals stars by their names, werent there before signing day.

Yea but you have to realize that they just recently announced their move to CUSA. Now that its official, they will start landing some better quality players. They will be fine when 2015 rolls around.

We should recruit well, hopefully the CUSA news propels the level of players that we recruit quickly.

Im not talking 2015, alot can happen by then, Im talking the 1 recruiting class referenced in that post, that is very misleading.
