RE: Should the Sun Belt change its name?
Just start using SBC when you talk about the confrence. Eventually people will respond to it.

Now if the confrence could brand those initials it would help.

Like I said, no one says "Western Athletic Confrence" the say WAC even though the full name is the reality.

A. The Sun Belt is a healthy, growing conference with an improving reputation. Why start over with that?

B. One of the league's biggest selling points is its geographic footprint. Keep that identity in the name. (C-USA is literally starting to cover the whole US; not what we are or what we want).

This.

And I like the idea of simply using SBC and changing the logo. The SBC has a decade under it's belt and is growing and improving. Fill stadiums and beat the other OOC teams we play.

You realize that North Texas is headed for C-USA don't you?

Uh, yes I do. But that does not diminish my desire for the SBC to succeed. North Texas helped SBC football get started and I've seen it kicked around and sh!t on far too long now. Hey, I'm for any conference not called the Big 12, Pac 12, Big 10, Big East, SEC, and ACC.
No offense meant, and I appreciate your comment. I've read a bit of smashmouth from UNT and FIU fans. Good luck.

The name needs to be changed. While I do believe that the Sunbelt schools need to win in order to change perceptions, we need to start with a clean slate. Forging a new identity starts with a complete 360 degree re-branding strategy. We don't want any old stigmas to remain.

RE: Should the Sun Belt change its name?
I respectfully disagree wholeheartedly with those that think the name of the Sun Belt Conference should be changed. The only way we change perception is by winning games and filling empty seats. I do think using "SBC" in place spelling the whole name out is the way to go. BTW, for those of you who are new to the conference, it's "Sun Belt" and NOT "Sunbelt".

We should leave it be...It does not matter what we call ourselves...We have a hospital here in Newnan called Piedmont Newnan hospital....back in the 50s it was called Coweta General then changed to Humana, Then To Newnan Hospital to Piedmont Newnan.....

Its always had a Bad rep in our town but it has gotten better since Piedmont came in but, Point is it doesnt matter if you change the name people know who you are even still.

Rebrand to SBC. That's what you need to do. Who ever calls the MAC the Mid-American Conference or CUSA the Conference USA when talking? It's always Sun Belt when people talk about the SBC. Change the brand, improve the marketability, and make the conference as a whole better.

??? We are still SBC members and want the conference to do well. Why wouldn't we? FIU made a sacrifice to help keep SBC Football alive and we are proud of being a member of the Belt.

As far as name changing, I think it's more important to start a culture of OOC winning, and attendance growing, than just changing the name of the conference. It has to start with winning....and I believe it has improved a lot lately.

Whatever they decide to do, a new logo is a MUST! Our current Sun Belt Logo looks like it was created by a twelve year old just learning Paintshop Pro (IMNSHO).

"sacrifice". Are u kidding?? Unless you mean loosing a boxing match to Miami in the name of SBC pride is a "sacrifice".. Appreciate your attempt at conference unity despite FIU ship jumping.. Good luck "sacrificing" in c-usa. Sure they see FIU as the designated savior.

No, I'm not kidding. You are new in this board, and likely don't know the history of Sun Belt football, especially as it pertains to FIU and FAU's hurried move to IA because the Belt asked us to when our program wasn't expecting to, and wasn't ready for the move up. I would hope your comment is only due to ignorance, and not for any other reason.

We didn't "loose" any fight, but our programs did make an unexpected, untimely, and costly move up to IA football.

Gotta admit - I do like the idea of going by the SBC and creating a new brand. The sun with the belt around it isn't appealing, nor does it tell you anything about the Conference. Perhaps there's a way to sell the geographic authenticity of the Sunbelt Conference membership, as well.

It is Sun Belt Conference, NOT Sunbelt Conference.

IMO you keep th name. How do you simply decide to change your name becasue of past failures. IMO there are not that many past failures.

The Sun Belt has only one team, UL, that has always been a member of what is now called BCS since there were many that decided to move down back in the eighties when the Southland downgraded we went independent.

My point is everyone that has come into this league since then has been no football, or fcs. IMO all have done as good or better than should be expected.
