McMurphy on Louisville radio this morning, very interesting interview on this:

1. The league Presidents went to Marinatto about his job status months ago...this isn't recent.
2. USF President blocked UCF entry around the same time they added TCU. The other league members went along.
3. League turned down more money that the ACC schools receive per school last year.
4. Marinatto being commissioner or not has no bearing on Boise State or SDSU...the people he talks to with those schools are 100% in. Boise State having some issues with Olympic Sports but they want in and AQ status or not it about the TV Money with them leaving and they knew this was a high possibility that AQ was gone.
5. Still not settled is BCS Revenue Formula, AQ, staggered or what...still up for negotiations. Only thing for certain is that the SEC & B1G gonna get a huge piece of the pie.

One thing to keep in mind is that the ACC has an escalating contract. They are lower than their $12.9 million average. So point #3 doesn't shed a lot of light.

I have a question? If the USF Prez blocked UCF inclusion the first time why was there a change of heart?

1. Was it because Cuse and Pitt bolted and they had no other choice but to invite UCF and 1/4 of CUSA.............again???

Kristi Dosh said it was $110-$130 million and all the discussion at the time was that it was close (maybe $11 million for fb schools) but not quite at the ACC level. I'm skeptical of the $15 million numbers that are coming out now. Doesn't mean it isn't right, but it makes you wonder why different figures are out right when someone gets fired.

As a fan of a school who is now in the ACC, I would LOVE to see the Big East hit the lottery here. That would be GREAT news!

Maybe b/c some people are forgetting to divide the total by 9 football schools, and not 8?

Its just about everything. Its what kept schools like UL, WVU, UC on almost a level playing field for recruits. There's a big difference between battling the likes of Ohio, Buffalo, and Kent State as opposed to Ohio State, Michigan, and Penn State. Granted, most of the blue chippers are heading to the latter, but BE schools have gotten a few. Would a player like Isiah Pead end up at Cincinnati if the BE wasn't an AQ school, or would LeSean McCoy end up at Pitt?

I don't remember the BCS helping Pitt win titles, or Penn State, or Houston win Cotton Bowls. BCS was a nice little bargaining chip for the few years it's been around, but a good program is a good program is a good program. If the right people maintain control, then BCS is the last thing to worry about. But yeah, when it finally goes, then we'll really see who are the good programs outside the "elite few".

You're right about how it helped create the divide between UL, WV, UC and the lower half of D1. However, now that the divide has been created, I don't really think the AQ going away can automatically remove that divide. I still expect to lose out to OSU/ND/Mich/MSU on the top tier of players and still expect to have our pick of the next tier before MAC and C-USA teams get almost anyone. In that respect, not much should change in the short term.

As for sneaking up a grabbing a guy like Pead, I'm not sure. There have only been a few cases where we beat out schools like Wisconsin, Illinois, etc. It's hard to say if those exceptions will still exist or not.

WVU has always been fighting an uphill battle, especially when it comes to perception. There's never been a huge population, so the media could care less. The nation has made stupid stereotypes about mountain folks, that have little basis in reality, and they are used during every WVU broadcast by some idiot with a mic...

The BEast didn't change any of that. Fellow conference members were more than happy to help perpetuate it, since it makes them feel better about their lot in life...
