No, his didn't "step down"...his butt was fired:

Marinatto was asked to resign by the league's presidents Sunday, sources said.

What is also interesting to me is that according to RC Johnson Memphis and the new members have voting rights now in the league.

Well I am glad he got us in before leaving. Will make for more talk over the offseason. Wonder who they go after.

Maybe the presidents wanted a new chief for the upcoming TV negotiations?

Or they weren't happy with the concessions he has already(?) made regarding the new BCS playoff?

My guess is that they have someone already in mind as well on who to take over.

Ya think?

Believe the Presidents of all the new members (they have voting priviledges NOW, even before they official enter the conf) had to be privately 'scared to death' in realizing that this clown might be in-charge of the Big East TV Negotiations:

See short video:
http://videos.nj.com/star-ledger/2011/09...n_mar.html

For the first time in Big East history...they can finally hire the BEST PERSON for the job (especially one with a TV background), vs taking the next clown from Providence College.

As most Univ Presidents and AD's know....you normally don't ask for one's resignation without knowing who you can replace them with.

PS. Oh...and MOVE THE Big East HQ TO NEW YORK CITY!!!!!

The BEast does everything too slowly. He should have been ousted before he took the job...
