I blame Rutgers. They are the ones that started this whole "playing college football" mess back in the 19th Century. :)

A year later, the SEC expands for a title game to get more money. They take South Carolina (a school that fit in much better with the ACC), and Arkansas (a school that fit in much better with the SWC). Ending Oklahoma St. and Texas rivalries. While putting a damper on the Clemson rivalry.

Some conferences look really ugly today. West Virginia not in a conference with Syracuse and Pitt? SDSU, Houston, BSU, etc. in a conference with UConn and Rutgers? With a chance to get even uglier. Clemson and Florida in a conference with Texas and Oklahoma? UNC and UVA in a conference with Ohio State and Michigan? How, if it comes to that, will conferences workout over the long term? Will we eventually come full circle and back to geographic conferences?

Long term South Carolina was a much better fit in the SEC. We got out of the ACC for a reason - we hated the Big 4 leadership. After twenty years of independence we were dying for the SEC. We took our lumps, but we are finally starting to settle in.
