2013 divisions
Has there been anything definitively said yet?

I assume Boise, SDSU, SMU, and UH are in the west. Which 2 join them?

In 2015 it makes sense to get 1 more western team and line up with:

BSU
SDSU
AFA/FS
Navy
SMU
UH

UCONN
Rutgers
Temple
UL
UC
UCF
USF

RE: 2013 divisions
Memphis has already been told we will be in the west. The 6th team, temporarily, is likely Temple, but when the 14th (western) team is added, along with Navy, Temple will move back east. The only other temporary western possibility could be UCF, but the only one I've heard or seen discussed is Temple.

So make the new guys in Philly go west until Navy+1 arrives?

Rutgers

West
Boise State
Memphis

Conference should make sure that Temple-Rutgers, Temple-UConn, Memphis-Louisville are crossover games. Rework everything when Navy joins with number 14 (or someone leaves).

Temple-Rutgers, Temple-UConn, Louisville-Memphis and Memphis-Cincy are must guarantee games in those 2 years. Once Navy and BYU/Air Force/Fresno join the west division we can make sure Rutgers-Navy and Louisville-Memphis are annual permanent crossover games.

Has it been officially announced that Temple and Memphis will be in the west division in 2013 and 2014?

I honestly don't think everything has been completely settled. Just conjecture at this point.

Memphis is officially in the western conference. It's even in their contract with the Big East. Temple is not but it was mentioned by their HC that they will likely be in the western conference in 2013 and 2014.

I have no idea if that's the thought process. Personally, I don't care. I just recall a couple of articles saying Temple would likely be in the west, until Navy and another western team are added. Unfortunately, I didn't save the links.

But yeah, it would make sense, temporarily. As I said, the only other realistic possibility would be UCF, and I have heard NOBODY in the media mention them.

Louisville doesn't want to go. Neither does Cincy, or any other eastern school. And it will only be for a couple of seasons, at most.

Right. Memphis is absolutely in the west, and Temple officials have been quoted in media articles as saying they would be in the west temporarily. I think that's a lot more than just conjecture.

I thought they would keep Memphis with Louisville & Cincinnati. But having them in the West would be good for SMU & Houston.

Long term, the West should be:

Memphis
SMU
Houston
Boise
BYU
Air Force
Fresno
SDSU

That would be cool .....

Ugg. Personally don't want to play Navy every year. It is a nice road trip, but getting ready for the option is a pain in the ass.

RE: 2013 divisions
I'll admit that I'm kind of surprised Memphis will likely end up in a division with Louisville or Cincinnati either. There's no right way to do it, but I'd start by grouping the teams in pairs that should be playing every year.

1. Louisville-Cincinnati-Memphis
2. UConn-Rugers-Temple
3. Central Florida-South Florida
4. Houston-SMU
5. Boise State-San Diego State-(Fresno, guessing them for right now so I have a reference)
6. Navy (no group)

From there I'd make sure the groups all play every year and I would divide it up so that the 5 Texas, Florida, California schools would not be together (even out recruiting). Actually I'm going to assume for this that the 14th member is Fresno State so that will give the conference 2 schools in Florida, Texas, and California. With that mind, I'd probably end up with this:

American National
Louisville UConn
Memphis Temple
Cincinnati Rutgers
Boise State Houston
Fresno State SMU
San Diego State Navy
South Florida-------Central Florida

South Florida-Central Florida would be the only regular crossover game, everyone else would rotate to keep as many match-ups as possible. The divisions aren't geographic here, but they do give both divisions 3 California/Texas/Florida schools, preserve regional games, and promote conference unity (rather than more of a new division vs. an old one).

RE: 2013 divisions
Best format for 2013
North-UConn, Rutgers, Temple, Cincy, Louisville, Memphis
South-USF, UCF, Houston, SMU, Boise, SDSU

Best format for 2015

North-UConn, Rutgers, Temple, Navy, Cincy, Louisville, Memphis
South-USF, UCF, Houston, SMU, Boise, SDSU (BYU, Air Force, or Fresno State). If its Air Force you have them play Navy in every season.

The conference would be smart to put the Florida schools with the Texas schools. Travel is about the same and it keeps the geographic rivals together.

Nothing has been decided, not even that the divisions will be divided geographically.

You left Memphis out of the west. If Air Force is added, Navy in the west would be good but if Fresno St is added you could end up with UCF in the West instead of Navy. There was also talk of Louisville in the west. Who knows. Time will tell.

I kinda like that format. still gives each side power schools. maintains rivals. Good Job ! 04-cheers
