Why cant the MAC go west? NDSU is minnesota basically.

I live in Minnesota and you, my friend, are no North Star state..

Look it's just too far the non revenue sports would hemorrhage money trying to get out to North or South Dakota and there are no bridge institutions to bring in. Nobody in Wisconsin or Minnesota are serious FBS candidates.

The best thing NDSU and SD could do it convince the Montana Schools to try and save the WAC. Idaho would be all over that and you would have a decent compact base for a mid major conference.

NDSU already has dominated Central Michigan and Ball State in football and are FCS national champs, so I understand why the MAC would be afraid of NDSU.

However, NDSU needs to embrace Minnesota and Wisc/Chicago and market that way, they already own North Dakota.

NDSU as an ALL SPORTS MEMBER would help the MAC big time, could average 25000 in football, 6000 in basketball in the new arena being built as well, Fargo to Chicago flights are numerous daily.

Sorry but there would be two states between you and NIU who, themselves, are a stretch for the MAC... It's just tooo far for a mid major.

Unless there was a big upside and while NDSU is a fine school it just does not have enough upside to go that far out into that part of the country.

Exactly... UMass is an eight hour drive from UB and thats a hike... NIU, on the other side is 12 hours (10 if you have a heavy foot)...

I can't see *any* of the eastern Teams, or even the OH/MI teams in the west even entertaining trips to ND

RE: Appalachian State to The MAC?
I heard (and all the data is in) that NDSU is 6 1/2 light years from the nearest current MAC school - and that the Wisc??/Chicago market (the MAC is not in the Wisc market) doesn't care about NDSU - or the MAC either for that matter.

But seriously, while I have nothing against NDSU, this is kind of telling:

NoIll to Buffalo, NY (current width of the MAC): 597 miles
NoIll to Fargo, ND (NDSU's closest conference rival if NDSU joins MAC): 605 miles

I don't think the MAC is looking to spread in both directions.
