Rick Bozich: Cards have a lot to lose in new set-up (Link)
Great article by Bozich. Plan talking straight to the point. Must read for all Louisville fans....
CJ

From the article:

"For U of L, the new system expected to be announced in July will be more than that. It probably will make it more difficult for the Cards to be a legitimate national player — as long as they’re parked in the Big East and not the Big 12.

In fact, USA Today already has said that the Big East’s addition of four teams (including Boise State and San Diego State) looks “ridiculous” through the lens of the potential new system, which figures to eliminate automatic qualifiers."

The Big East’s shortcut through the BCS will be one of the first items to disappear. Programs throughout the Atlantic Coast Conference also should be pacing the sidelines, considering the underperformance of that league.

He just said what you and I and lots of other Louisville fans have been saying since the Big East started pushing for Villanova in football. The leaving of Pitt, Cuse and West Virginia sealed the deal on the death of Big East football.! 07-coffee3

The BE was already taking all sorts of flak while those three schools were still around. Kind of funny the selective criteria used by the media: When Pitt and Syracuse are mediocre/bad, the media uses that to kill the league. When they leave, it's like, they've lost two of their best programs 03-lmfao

I will agree WVU was a real loss.

BJUnklFkr, I keep hearing rumblings that BYU is not coming to Big 12 and Cincinnati might be. One supposed B12 posterposter, Colton, on inside the Ville, says no to UC. However, many articles are still saying UC or Rutgers, if BYU says no. I still am hoping for UC. 04-cheers

Wilkie, the LDS church didn't want to bend on one of the Big XII's main sticking points. I figured something like that would happen. Had it been up to BYU's president, there'd have been no problem. But that wasn't the case...

Beej, WVU was lost just before the start of the Maryland game. Once Pitt and Syracuse announced their departure, there was no way WVU was going to stay. Every rivalry we had was dead...

it's what it appears quo vadis and myself know and are trying to point out to everyone else in that thread on the main board. a lot of the people posting there have their hands pressed up against their ears refusing to see the very real possibility that the big boys found a way to screw the big east legally and providence just lapped this decision up with a spoon. i guess you can't call out anyone you follow if you know they are doing wrong. it would be hilarious if it weren't so sad. ignorance is bliss i guess.

tom jurich being there says one of two things: 1) he was the responsible big east representative there to make sure that the big east had as equal a shot of getting one of those 4 slots in the playoff or 2) he was there to find out what the final scenario would be so it would be easier for us to negotiate into the big 12 with or without a second team. i'm betting on 2.

You guys could very well be right. The BEast just may have waited too long to jump on the football bandwagon. The conference leadership may have just relegated The BEast to an afterthought...

Bit, remember we talk about this the day Marinatto started pushing Villanova. Lot of us said then that the Big East would die trying to please Norte Dame and Providence. Well, they succeeded. 03-puke

If we at least get a decent cut of the jingle, and the big TV contract we're hoping for, I'll be ecstatic. Not saying it's happening, but I WOULD be happy if it happened.

I'd be surprised if we were that high on the B-12's radar screen.

Wilkie, I've been complaining about The BEast leadership since 1990, and it hasn't done me one bit of good...

But, who's really more at fault? The BE leadership or the school presidents who have allowed it?

If the university presidents could have ever come to an agreement on any one issue, that might be the case. But since they never agreed on anything, how did they allow anything? They fought everything tooth and nail...

Look at how highly ranked teams like Boise St., TCU and Utah got despite playing in weak conferences....The BE is a better conference than the Mt. West & WAC so as long as you win the games..(ALL off them) a BE team will finish top 4....But if not it makes for a great argument to expand the playoff to 8-12 teams like it should be.
