This is just too funny
http://worldnews.msnbc.msn.com/_news/201...hange?lite

Quote:James Lovelock, the maverick scientist who became a guru to the environmental movement with his “Gaia” theory of the Earth as a single organism, has admitted to being “alarmist” about climate change and says other environmental commentators, such as Al Gore, were too.

Lovelock, 92, is writing a new book in which he will say climate change is still happening, but not as quickly as he once feared.

...

It will also reflect his new opinion that global warming has not occurred as he had expected.

“The problem is we don’t know what the climate is doing. We thought we knew 20 years ago. That led to some alarmist books – mine included – because it looked clear-cut, but it hasn’t happened,” Lovelock said.

An interesting point of reference: James Lovelock is one of the very few pro-nuclear prominent environmental scientists, and has been for a while now.

I wonder if his admission of climate alarmism is a death bed conversion? He's 92, wonder what goes through his mind?

Probably not as much oxygen as it needs. But he probably didn't want to hit 93 with the guilt of a global hoax on his conscience.

I don't deny that man has some impact on climate change. I just doubt seriously that is the impact that the environmental alarmists are claiming.

I have said this repeatedly....The environmentalists should stop pushing this GW agenda and start pushing for CLEAN AIR. Who in the hell objects to that? 01-wingedeagle This accomplishes their goal without all this endless debate.

Agreed. Who doesn't want less pollution? That's a simple thing to push for that we (should) all agree on.

I don't know about being one of the very few, but he is a strong proponent of nuclear energy. The real disconnect between environmentalists and nuclear energy came about for historical reasons, as the design choices and funding of nuclear energy really came about as a means to produce plutonium for weapons programs (a decidedly anti-green activity), similar to the current process in Iran et al.

Had the energy programs really been separate from weapons programs, the greens may not have what is now a decidedly irrational and discordant position (and likewise, the power plants may have different designs that would not have proliferation concerns and/or some of the potential safety problems). Many subsequent plants that were built in countries not interested in weapons programs (Japan) used the same designs as American power plants only because the design already existed and was proven.
