2013 Big East Hoop Tourn to change format
Slight tweak...but good news for seeds #9 and #10 but it eliminates 1 game on Day 1.

That was expected; however, I am more interested in seeing what the format will be in 2014.

Losing Cuse out of the Tourn in 2014 might be a big pill to swallow and wouldn't be surprised if ESPN almost forces Big East's hand to do away with the DOUBLE-BYE format.

With possibly some non-attractive match-ups for the first 2 day of the 2014 tourn...wouldn't be surprised if ESPN tells the Big East that it wants ALL teams to start play by the 2nd day.

One of two choices:

1. An 18 game tournament with five games each on Tuesday and Wednesday:

2. A four team play-in round at St. John's on Monday to get to 16 by Tuesday.

RE: 2013 Big East Hoop Tourn to change format
For the 18 team tournament, I figured it'd be like this:
Bottom 10 teams face off on Day 1 becoming 5 teams
5 survivors plus the middle 5 on Day 2 leaving 5 survivors
5 survivors plus the Top 3 on Day 3 leaving 4 survivors
Semis on Day 4
Finals on Day 5

Otherwise you need to do 6 games on Day 1 or Day 2 or you need to do a 6 day tournament.

It will be the same format we have now just that the last two teams will not be invited.

OR

The bottom four teams play for the final two spots on monday.

I don't see MSG wanting their competitors across the river in NJ getting in on their action.

What the fudge are you talking about? How could ESPN do that? Thats like saying last decade when the Big XII FB championship games were one sided blow outs that ABC/ESPN made the Big XII take the two best teams in the south.

I guarantee you that the Big East absolutely will not be excluding any of the league's teams from the basketball tournament.

The other option, to keep everyone at MSG, is to play the 8/17, 9/16, and 7/18 games at 9:00 AM, 11:30 AM, and 2:00 PM.

By the way, my proposal is the same format as now, except that the first day is expanded to include the two new members.

It's not without precedent to exclude teams in the tourny.

Agree. When Syracuse leaves that will be a big loss. Hopefully, Temple and Memphis can help offset that loss. I believe Uconn's ban is only for 1 year so they should be back for 2014.
