RE: HW: Wednesday's news and notes
Interesting notes on McIntosh. It sounds like he is coming along nicely. I did think he had a stronger arm than Lynch when I saw him practice last year. Definitely future starter potential and I wonder if he will be used as part of a McIntosh package taking a few snaps per game.

Perhaps next year he may even challenge Lynch for the starting position.

Quote:Quotable: “We had good energy today. We talked about some goals that we had that we didn’t get last year. We didn’t beat a BCS team last year, and that’s something we want to do. I think that got a little juice in it, and the guys are excited to play a couple of those teams.” – Doeren.

C'mon! Enough already.

Can someone talk to DD about not making that erroneous distinction. Actually, NIU beat 10 BCS teams last year, not an "AQ" in the bunch, but 10 BCS teams, yes!

We and the schools we played are FBS but not BCS schools.

There's nothing erroneous about it. It's true. There are 6 BCS auto conferences, that's the the distinction is. Everyone seems to understand that except you.

Actually, the MAC is a BCS conference, just non-AQ.

Of course, this is all probably going to change.

Honestly I really could care less. There IS a divide between us and them and that is really his only point. We do better if we have the David vs Goliath mentality rather than thinking that we are equals...which we are not.

It really is just a matter of semantics, and yes there is a big difference between the AQs and us.

Actually I take that back. I will not care once DD defeats a B1G team at NIU.

There is a big difference between SOME of the "AQs" and NIU. Boise State is still technically a "non-AQ" and there is a big difference there as well, so there is no reason to call out the distinction as if that distinction alone means anything more than it does. There is a big difference between "non-AQ" Boise State and "AQs" Wake Forest, Duke, Indiana, etc in favor of the "non-AQ."

Some teams are more successful than others and there is NO DIRECT CORRELATION between success on the field and the recently fabricated "AQ" label.

The distinction alone means nothing except that those teams that are in an "AQ" are guaranteed a bid by just winning their conference whereas those teams in a "non-AQ" conference have to meet additional criteria and earn that same bid to the pre-determined bowls.

Well, there's a correlation but it isn't perfect, there are exceptions. In football, competitively there's been very little difference between NIU and the bottom half of AQ conferences.
