RE: DEMOCRATIC SENATE REFUSED BUFFET RULE
Slightly misleading title. One Democrat voted against it, one Republican for it. There was a majority for, 51-45, though it wasn't enough for the bipartisan support (meaning Republicans) needed to advance it.

IMATY, you should work for fox nation or drudge with that thread title...linking to a story titled: "Senate GOP blocks Obama's 'Buffett rule' for minimum tax rate on millionaires"

You do know that the GOP is don't you?

It's not a solution for all our ills but $47 billion isn't chump change either and we're leaving it on the table, why? Are we not allowed to do anything unless it closes the deficit by itself?

Thank you. It's a political gimmick, pure and simple. 47 billion over 10 years is nothing. It's a rounding error.

Jon Stewart showed clips last night of GOP senators outraged over the millions (with an M) that we give Planned Parenthood, calling it "a lot of money", and then turning around and saying $47 billion is a "pittance".

You spend your political capital on what makes the biggest dent first, then you target the incremental solutions.

He tried that. Remember the Grand Bargain Obama proposed last fall? Cut $4 trillion in spending for just $1 trillion in tax revenues? And the GOP walked away? Obama has tried to make big dents, but his political capital means nothing to an obstructionist GOP House. So he has to push something incremental like this with broad support to even get a chance of passing.

Except that this doesn't have bipartisan support in Congress. That's what matters. Is the GOP being a d-bag and refusing to pass any legislation even if it will help America? Yes. Is that the reality that the President has to lead in? Yes. Is it a shame? Yes.

47 Billion of a 1.3 trillion dollar deficit! That's just *3* percent of last years deficit! just *3* percent.... It's nothing but a gimmick and class warfare which is what Obama is good at.

Learn the difference between revenue and spending. I know it doesn't matter to you because you believe "millionaire's money" isn't really theirs anyway.

And, liberals always look at tax increases in a static environment. Raising taxes never influences behavior, right, and brings in less revenue because people adjust their behavior? Raising taxes on gas is good to liberals because it will lower gas use. But, raising taxes on income won't influence people or cause them to move elsewhere to make their income. Brilliant.

If you want less of it, tax it. If you want more of it, subsidize it.

DNC Logic 101

Even though Planned Parenthood does not really provide mammograms we can claim they do to look heroic... Even if we slam anti breast cancer Charities for not giving planned parenthood money.

RE: DEMOCRATIC SENATE REFUSED BUFFET RULE
Personally I am rather disappointed in what amounts to a lost opportunity by the GOP.

They should have been willing to compromise on this rule if they got something better in return. Maybe 47 Billion in entitlement cuts for 47 billion in taxes..

Planned Parenthood, PBS, ... Make a wishlist of pork and say "well trade you"
