NBA players should be happy to lose!
If you are not a star NBA player, why in the hell would you want to win games and advance in the playoffs.

Time is money.

If I make $7 million a year, why in the hell would I want to stick around and keep playing games for another month. Making the playoffs takes two weeks more out of the year.

If I am a regular player, I would be like F ---- this, I am glad I don't have to work.

That is a month I could be on the beach with my family enjoying my wealth.

This isn't about the Grizzlies.

It's pure logic.

If I am a journeyman NBA player, it behooves me to put up good numbers in the regular season and not make the playoffs.

I get to prolong my career and spend more time with my family.

An average established NBA player not making the playoffs can afford to drive his luxury car to the airport where a private jet whisks him to a lavish tropical resort. Losing has its rewards.

Players get extra pay for advancing in the playoffs. I suspect it also helps their endorsement deals.

Not saying this plays a huge role, but there's also the competition factor. To play in the NBA, someone has to be amongst the best in the world and they only got that way by being incredibly competitive. Anyone with this level of competition does not want to be watching the playoffs on TV.
